option 1 :separate bank accounts? option 2: joint account? option 3: joint account with a stash on the side?
So many choices and every choice you make affect ur future...esp since money is not an easy issue in marriages
i think option 3 works for me!

right now we have a joint checking and a joint savings at one bank. and a CD together
I have a checking at the bank I work in.
Then I have a Checking & Savings at a 3rd bank.
FH has a checking and savings at another bank also.
It's working out great and we both have each others passwords to online banking to see what is going on, etc. (in case of emergency, etc)
everything is working at perfect and we've had it like this for over 3 years. I don't think we'll change a thing.
me gusta!!!

Re: My Money is Your Money
We have a joint checking account for the monthly bills that we share.
We have a joint savings account that mostly only gets contributions from me, but that's because FH has a lot more personal bills than I do.
We each have our own checking accounts so we can pay our own individual bills (Like student loans, FH is still paying off my ring, etc etc)...also so that we can buy each other presents and not feel like we've bought it for ourselves.
I can't imagine it not being this way, it works very well for us. Every couple of months we look at our budget again to make sure we're not paying crazy amounts into the joint accts.

Re: My Money is Your Money
I'll go with option 4. My money, Your money, Our money. We took all of our expences cut it in half that goes into our money. Everything else is mine or his. We put an equal amount into a forth bank account that is an emergency fund that is never touched. This has worked for us for over 10 years.

Re: My Money is Your Money
We will have a joint savings and joint checking. We will still keep our individual savings/checking accounts though.
If FH wants to buy a 3k tv as long as it's not coming out of 'our' money then what can I really say?

Re: My Money is Your Money
We have joint checking and savings, and our own checking accounts. All monies are deposited into the joint, and everything is paid from there. We have issued ourselves 'allowances that get automatically tranferred into our individual checking accounts.
I must admit with the wedding our allowances have kept getting reduced.
