I have laid down the law that there will be no children at my wedding or reception. The invites are going out as Mr. & Mrs. _______ and 2 places have been reserved in your honor and adult reception to follow. So basically, I have done everything possible to make it clear that children are not welcome. Further, if i get those annoying calls asking me, 'Can we bring our baby/child' the answer will be unequivically, no.
My worry however, is what happens if someone actually shows up with their baby/child that day despite all efforts?
Do I :
a) Have someone ask them to leave? That would, of course, be horrendous.
b) Do nothing. What can I do at that point?
c) Ask them to pay for the child because I now have to?
Has anyone had this experience? What would/will you do if this happens to you?

Re: My Newest Wedding Worry
Honestly, I think at that point I would suck it up and just let it be... they would have to sit with the parent and Im sure the parent will compensate.. but who knows? There is really nothing you can do the day of, you cant kick them out, cause that might start a fight and you dont want that at your wedding.. and honestly, you probably wont notice the child.. I doubt anyone would really do that though, so dont worry

Option B. At that point, you really can't do anything. Ask your catering hall how much more it would be if a child came. I know that kids under 10 are free at my place...
I don't see how they could or why they would charge you for a baby.....it's not like they're going to eat, etc. And if they're over 10 then see if you can work out a deal with the cathering hall...maybe they will waive the kids fee if they do show up the day of your wedding....

My RH charges me 1/2 price for a child under the age of 10 and that includes babies ... so def ask!

I have thought about this too, and I plan to have anyone who has the nerve to bring their uninvited child with them, escorted out!

Re: My Newest Wedding Worry
Im not sure if you have already done your invites, but on my reception card at the very top it says 'Adult Reception'
However, if it does happen, I would say for you to go with option 2. You dont want to get in to any altercation with a guest at your wedding..just have fun and let someone else deal with it...

Re: My Newest Wedding Worry
To avoid this whole situation I would put 'Adult Reception' on the invites. It is VERY common these days. This plainly states no children allowed.
Since you aren't doing so...I say Option B - there is nothing you can do at that point. Would you really escort a guest out because of this? I think that would be quite an embarrassment for you and the guest. Be the bigger person and let them be.
Have your Mom and other family member spread by word of mouth that children are not invited and it's adults only.
On my invitation I put the number of seats reserved per guest and I actually received a call from one of my guests asking if they could bring their baby - I reserved 2 seats(mom&dad)-and I said yes. I am inviting children but only for family. The baby is 6 months old and obviously will not have a seat so I don't mind at all if they bring the baby.

Re: My Newest Wedding Worry
I too have the same issues as you-- I have written adults only on the invite and those that already have made little hints that they can't find a babysitter- i have sent out a link to a babysitting service. So no one has an excuse to bring their child. I'm not trying to be rude and don't have anything against their children, we just don't think little kids should be at such an elegant event.

Re: My Newest Wedding Worry
Well, my advice is not to say anything unless the brat starts misbehaving. If the kid acts like a typical child and is running around...have someone approach them and ask them to either watch their kid or take them home since this IS an adult reception only. This way they feel stupid and know its their fault.

I have to be honest...i dont think if people respond for 2 they will bring their child. I think it's something you do not need to worry about.

There isn't anything you can do about it at that point. So why even bother worrying about it? I wouldn't be at all. Unnecessary stress and aggravation.

I agree with the girls who said Option B. At that point, you can't really do anything. So don't pay attention to it, and just enjoy your day!

agreed, plus, you might not even have to pay for them because the if the child is really little, the parent would most likely hold them on their lap anyway (since of course in the first place they shouldnt expect a seat reserved for them) and Im sure the RH will not even know. Im not saying tryo to get out of it, but unless they say something, I dont think ti would be an issue.
Oh, wait the kid wants to have like a seperate meal, lol I totally forgot about this, seriously.

Re: My Newest Wedding Worry
seriously? escort them out? so basically treat it like a bar or a club...although you shouldn't have to worry about that, it happens, it stinks, do your invites and say adults only. Don't make a mockery of everything and escort a person out because in the long run, you will probably ruin your relationship with the person you just kicked out.
They won't show up with a child if they dont put that on the RSVP card - so you will know before the day of if its gonna be a problem...

I have to agree... it will suck to have to deal with kids if they are misbehaving but in the long run I would just have someone ask the parent to control their child... asking them to leave will just cause tension and probably ruin your relationship with them...

Yes, seriously I would escort them out. It is my wedding that I am paying for and it is my choice not to have children there. And if someone was rude enough to totally disregard our wishes on our wedding day that means I don't want a relationship with them anyway. It is my opinion, well actually mine and FH's opinion, that is what the OP asked for.

I agree with you, it would probably destroy a relationship with someone I cared enough to invite to my wedding. At that point, on the day of my wedding, I think I would let it go and just realize that person is a flake, but move on with my day.
