Is it normal to be sad when they sell the house you grew up in? SO many changes....me getting married and moving out, my sister moving to California, my brother moving out, the house going on the market....all since April! Why can't everything stay the same forever?

I felt this way in 97 when my parents sold my childhood home to move to FL. My college boyfriend and I broke up, I was living on my own in Queens, and then my childhood dog died. All within months of one another. But now when I pass my house, it just feels weird, bc (ok, i'm gonna be cheesy now) ... a house is just a house, a home is where your heart is. Har.

funny you should say that because this past year, i read the wizard of oz with my 7th graders, and we had several discussions on the difference between a 'house' and a 'home'.....
actually, that heps to put in into perspective....

i was said when my parents moved - we only moved 2 miles away but it was hard- the final move happened 3 days before my college graduation, so i came home only to the new house and then i was moving to CT for a new job within a month.
My younger brother kept telling the people who were buying our house that it had termite problems, rats, haunted, anything he could think of- he did not want to move
it is hard- we have been in the new house for about 3 years now and it is starting to feel like my home but it is hard because i ma never home for long. he other hard part is my old house whihc was a decent size was completely changed and does not look my old house - so i don't feel like i can drive past any longer to enjoy it
sorry so long but i didn't like moving from the house i lived for 17 years

Yes - its perfectly natural to feel sad when the home you grew up in is no longer yours. But now its time to make new memories!!

It is never easy when your parents sell your childhood home. I still pass by the first house we lived in on LI every once & a while.....

You're not alone in feeling sad. I am sad about packing up 28 years of memories in my parents' house and moving into my new condo with my DH. I can only imagine how I will be when my parents move...

You are totally normal to feel sad about this :) When my parents sold our childhod home, I had already moved out 2 years ago, but still always knew I could come 'home' whenever I wanted. It was so sad when I had to come back and really move all my things out - and to think that I'd never have this place to come home to again. But after a while it becomes less upsetting, and you now have this wonderful new life ahead of you with time to create a home of your own. This is a wonderful feeling to know that you are now creating a home of your own with your FI/DH, and while it's still sad to lose the house you grew up in, you now have years of happiness ahead of you to turn your own house into a home :) Thinking of it that way is what really helped me get over losing my childhood home, so I hope you are able to pull through!

Unfortunately I moved around when I was growing up but if I had lived in one house my whole life and then it was being sold, I'd be really upset. Definitely normal.
