My Pet Peeve of the Day (sure to cause some strife)

Is there any reason why grown women, when talking to one another, especially on a message board where it is not face-to-face, cannot say the word PERIOD??? It's not your TOM (time of month), your Aunt Flo, your friend, etc. It's your period. I've seen this on other message boards that I use as well. What's the deal with that? Why can't we say period? How about menses? Menstruation? Anything other than those cutesie little euphemisms. Please!

This was not brought on by anyone in particular. It's something that has always bothered me, but I'm a little cranky right now and needed to unleash.

growing up we always called it our period....I didnt know what Aunt Flow was until I was in college. Although, my gf's and I would sometimes call it 'our friend'

I prefer not to call it TOM - becuase that's the man I'm marrying.....

In college I had it for like 5 months straight....and anytime anyone asked me why i was in a bad mood, i would flat out tell them....'well, I've had my period every day for 5 months...'
I was so annoyed at the world (can you say hormones???) that I didn't care who knew and who i told! I was not a whole lot of fun to be around!
Then it finally ended and we had a party and drank red wine (yeck) and my room was decoarated in maxis and tampons.......

ahhhhh, the good ol' days of college.....

Hey, when I was a freshman in HS I didn't get my period for 8 or 9 months (docs said it was the stress of losing my grandfather who I was very close to). Now I know where it went for 5 of them
