My Pet Peeve of the Day (sure to cause some strife)
Original post by jannshari
Is there any reason why grown women, when talking to one another, especially on a message board where it is not face-to-face, cannot say the word PERIOD??? It's not your TOM (time of month), your Aunt Flo, your friend, etc. It's your period. I've seen this on other message boards that I use as well. What's the deal with that? Why can't we say period? How about menses? Menstruation? Anything other than those cutesie little euphemisms. Please!
This was not brought on by anyone in particular. It's something that has always bothered me, but I'm a little cranky right now and needed to unleash.
There, I feel better now. Thank you.

i do wish I had those mother daughter memories. *sigh*
Still I have my father referring to it as .. 'that' and 'it' When I was younger it was the pee-pee area or below the pee-pee hole or the 'other' hole.
Poor dad never really could figure out how to talk to a little girl. But he tried.

When I was younger, and embarrassed to say it in front of my father, I would call it my 'Dot at the End of a Sentence.'
I thought I was the only one who said that!! It sounds so silly now. Except I wouldn't even discuss it with my father - even the time I asked him for money to go buy pads. I said I need $5, don't ask me why, I'll be right back!

Riding the crimson wave.
Riding the cotton pony.
The Curse.
Friend visiting from Down Under.
These are all things that should never be uttered in my presence unless you'd like to be knocked upside the head.

My sister always says 'I'm on my period.' For some reason that drives me insane, like you're riding it like a ride, or sitting on it like a chair. I don't know if my 'I have my period' is right either, but her being on her period really disturbs me.

Lol! I swear, every time she says it, it's like nails on a chalkboard for me! Glad to see I'm not the only one.

I always think of SATC, when Charlotte and Trey go to the sex counselor and name their 'equipment' Schooner and Rebecca-and Charlotte tells him to put his schooner deep in her rebecca...it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen
its all about the doodlebug baby

AGREED!! (But I also can't stand people who say they are 'going to Prom' instead of going to THE prom) The little names annoy me as well (it also took me a long time to figure out AF on here - I have never in my life heard of Aunt Flo).
In HS though, me & my girlfriends called it having Brenda come visit because Brenda Vaccarro did Tampax commericals. But that was just between me & my three best girls.

You're definitely not the only one....It makes me cringe as well....
You're ON the bus...You're not ON your period!

Well what do you tell your hubby when he wants to get down and dirty and your 'period' has come to town? I tell him - honey, I've got my period. And that is what I call it.
I don't think he would understand aunt flow. Men are a lttle bit slow- and he has 2 sisters.
