My photographer said she doesn't offer proofs???

Am I crazy?

The photographer I really like told me today that she doesn't offer proofs. Um, HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SEE MY PICTURES??? I thought most photgrahpers give you like 300-500 proofs.

can someone tell me if I'm crazy? Should I run for the hills? I'm freaking out.

maybe she shows you pics from the PC? I personally wouldnt book if they wont give up the proofs!

Maybe all your pics are on a CD for you to choose from, no paper proofs. Or do you mean she does not give you proofs to keep w/o her stamp across the bottom?

Have you already signed with her? Maybe search on her name and check with other brides who have used her.

Good luck!

Run for the hills! She should give you proofs!

Even if she gives you a CD with pics on it, you should still get actual proofs. What pics look like on a PC and what they look like in print can be 2 different things. I would either demand actual proofs or find another photographer.

if she is shooting digitally you will get a CD of your proofs most likely. Is she shooting digital or film?

does she mean printed proofs?

What will you get?

Thanks for all your replies. She said she shoots everything digital & that proofs are not inluded in the package, which btw is over $4k. Its not like she's cheap. Do I have to pay extra for proofs??? I am SO CONFUSED.

If I want a DVD with my pictures, that's an extra $500. So am I being forced to buy the DVD if I want to see my photos?

I haven't signed any papers yet but I LOVE her work. I'm getting so bummed out. I did a search for her on here & I can't find her listed. I found her on the knot... I think she was a photographer with Bella Pictures who went out on her own. Her name is Beth Keiser... has anyone heard of her?

Why don't you send her an email and ask her to clarify this?

I wouldn't book unless I was getting all of my proofs... bu that is just me. I have heard of photographers not offering them, but eeryone I went to did. If you really like this photographer ask what her policy is?

I have heard of her and actually considered her when searching for my photog.

I would call her just to clarify what she means and ask how you would look at your pics if she didnt supply proofs..

back in the day it was VERY common for photogs to not offer proofs
they would give you the proofs, you pick what you want and then you have to RETURN them - and they would stamp each one ( not like they do now with a little thing i mean a HUGE thing across the pic)

but that has stopped some time ago - i think any photog offers the proofs now, and if you DO have to buy them its some small fee. . .

i wouldnt want to do that bc then honestly how many pictures are you getting - 100 total? for ALL THAT MONEY? doesnt make sense! and its not like THEY can do anything with them?

i understand with scanning and printing now that they may lose money by offering all the proofs but still it is a common courtesy for charging a gabillion dollars for their service!

My photog has all of our proofs put on DVD with music. We pick out the copies we want. I thought that was really nice. But still, there should be some sort of proofs available to you.

I know an excellent photographer who shoots digital and I'm pretty sure the CD with all the proofs is included in the package...

I find it odd that she is charging so much extra to keep the proofs on CD... but I really am not sure what the market is...

Definitely contact her and clarify if you do receive a CD of all of your proofs (is it included in the pacakge). Or if you have to pay extra for them. If you have to pay extra, above the 4K you're alredy paying for the photographer, RUN!

Thanks again for all your replies...

I have been emailing with her all morning trying to figure out just what the hell her cost DOES cover. I asked her how much she charges for proofs and how I am expected to view my photos, etc... She said 'my clients buy their digital images.'

She then suddenly just now said she was has become booked on my date. I guess she didn't like all my questions Oh well... onward & upward!!!

Thanks everyone.
