My poor dad got a parking ticket today for....

parking in the handicap spot with an illegible expiration date. They write the passes in marker and it wore away.

My dad worked for nassau county and he drove the big tractor trailors he also plowed the snow in the winter. A couple of years ago they where doing work and there was a led pipe laying in the road a trailor ran over the led pipe which rolled over my dads foot. broke all 5 of his toes and all the bones in his foot. He still walks with a limp. Had to retire cause he cant drive a trailor. He doesnt even like to drive to the end of the block to goto the store.

He went to stop and shop today and he got a ticket for parking in the handicap spot with the date wore off. Its a 265.00 dollar fine. We are talking about a man who walks with a limp and doesnt even like to park in the handicap spots cause someone who has a worse disability might need the spot. I don't get the morons who park there cause its close to the door get nothing.

So now they have to call the place u get the passes get a letter that says he had one and then go and plead not guilty in court which means my mom or I will have to drive him cause he wont drive to hempstead. I feel so bad for him he is a very ummmm Jumpy man gets nervous easily.

Re: My poor dad got a parking ticket today for....

I know.

They called the office and they told them the cops usually call the office first to see if its good. But the she didn't for my dad.

Re: My poor dad got a parking ticket today for....

I am sorry your father got a ticket...I am sure it can be easily straightened out.

But I am actually glad to see that police are paying attention to things like that. I hate seeing cars with regular plates parked in the reserved spaces.

Re: My poor dad got a parking ticket today for....

I always get so pissed off when I see someone park there just cause its close. But my dad had his pass up it expires next month and he is getting a new one. Their last name starts with W so they didn't get that far yet. He had his pass up. The lady at the office said the cops call first to see if it's good. Its not his fault they right them in marker and it wore away. Its just a big hassal considering he can't drive to the court to fight the tickets so now my mom or I will have to take off from work to take him for something the cop should have called and checked on in the first place.

Re: My poor dad got a parking ticket today for....

I want to be clear that I don't think your father should have received a ticket and that the officer should have followed the proper procedure and check the permit.

I was saying in general there is a lot of abuse of handicapped spots and I am glad to hear for once the rules are being enforced.

I don't believe calling to check in on the pass is part of the official proper procedure.

I am a bit defensive of cops, the police officer was just doing their job, do you know how many counterfit handicapp parking passes are out there?

YIKES. The lady at the handicap place told my dad when he called that usually the cops call to see if the permit is valid.

Yes, they do usually call...but by no means is it part of protocol nor are they required to.

Re: My poor dad got a parking ticket today for....

I'M SORRY FOR THE POOR CHOICE OF WORD.

I am sure there is a counterfeit tag problem.

I guess seeing so many illegally parked cars you have to wonder why the officer would ticket a car with a tag, granted expired or whatever, opposed to ticketing a car that is illegally parked in some other way where the ticket will get paid (too close to fire hydrants, expired meters, blocking intersections, etc). It seems this one will be cancelled in traffic court.

Exactly Or what about the 20 year old kid or the mother who has her 3 kids with her and the handicap is just so close to park and they dont have a pass.
