my shower is sunday

what do i wear? it's at a restaurant. i'm not even excited..isn't that sad. FMIL ruined it for me.

wear anything you like. pants a nice top or a casual dress.

i don't understand? why so sad? i mean...you're having your shower!!! that should be great? what happened?

you can wear something casual nice--slacks and a blouse--or skirt....but i'm just curious as to why you're sad.

i'm sad because of FMIL. She caused a huge fight when this was being planned that was so bad that my dad had to stay home from work one day because he was sick to his stomach. She was upset that HER friends weren't invited (hello! its MY shower...IMO, her friends - that I don't even know- don't belong there.)

So my shower planner kept telling FMIL that I provided a guest list and those were the people invited, that I didn't want a big huge shower. So FMIL's response was 'I'm sick of Robyn getting what she wants.'

FMIL has been carrying on every step of the way with the wedding plans. Since my mom passed away, she thinks she has the upper hand on everything since its my dad's girlfriend (who, I don't know what I would have done without her...she's made this a lot easier for me) who has been helping. FMIL just keeps saying 'well, I'm the mother of the groom, and this is what I want...' And Randi, who's been helping, can't exactly say 'well, I'm MOB and this is what I want..'

It's just been fight after fight after fight.

That is soo terrible!! I'm so sorry! You need to have a little talk to FMIL about that! Just because she's the other 'mother' doesn't mean she gets to call the shots! Of course you always get what you want - it is ALL about you and FH - NOT her! Can FH talk to her? There is no reason that she should be affecting you and your father like this

Aww... I am sorry FMIL is using her position and the circumstances in your life to manipulate situations to her advantage. You should be getting what you want it is YOUR wedding; not hers.

You can not control how your FMIL acts only how you react to her. Go to your shower and have a blast! It's your shower and everyone there is going to be there because of you. Hopefully that thought will make you smile

i agree totally! like Dr. phil says, you teach people how to treat you.... FMIL is looking for a reaction from you. if you don't give her one, then she has no reason to act this way. so i would just go, ignore her, and have a blast with YOUR family and friends on YOUR day!

Maybe it is time you set her straight and let her know that your dad's girlfriend will never replace your mom, however she is very important to you and you value her ideas and opinions and she has as much say in things as the FMIL. Sorry you are going thru this. But it sounds like you have a good releationship with your dad and his girlfriend and that is great.
Enjoy your shower....suprise or not, it is your day.
