My Unique CP idea...please tell me the truth(Pic included!) Repost from 06 Board...

Here's the scoop:
I'm not such a huge fan of flowers....I love them, I just can't justify blowing soooooo much money on my CP's for my 22+ tables... So I came up with a different idea for my CP's, one that really is relevant to me.. an Herb Garden CP! I have always had a love of cooking, so I thought this idea would be really cute. Mom is giving grief, saying how 'different it is' and how some people 'won't appreciate it, and think you are just being cheap'. Yes, it is inexpensive (only costing me after tax 21bucks!!! That saves me over 2000!) Please tell me what you think.. I made a sample and the pic is below... Need your opinions, as you are THE guru's on all wedding issues

Honestly I think it is a cute idea but I think it would be a better idea for a favor not the size that you made but even if every table got a different herb or you stuck with two of them. I looked at the carlye & I just don't think that the two go together JMO

You know what? I think they are really cool. I love it when people do things a little different. The only issue I would have is the smell -- herbs can be REALLY REALLY fragrant.

Im sorry, but Im not a big fan of it either. I think it would make a great favor idea, but I dont think it would compliment the beautiful decor of the carlyle

Honestly- jmo but you are having your wedding at such an amazing place- I don't think that centerpiece would match the ambiance

I think it would be a better favor too! Actually, come to think of it, I would LOVE to get something like that as a favor...but not neccessarily as a cp; IMO

Sorry im not a big fan either, and I agree I dont think it would go w/ Carlye's atmosphere. Maybe you can do something else if your not a fan of flowers..like candles or I read in some article that some use cakes as a CP and your guests can eat it too or something like that.

I like the idea. It is different. You might want to add some height to it. Maybe using a silver galvanized pail that is taller, which will add height, but also the silver will give it a classier look. Just a suggestion...

My florist did an herb theme for my shower. Here are some pics. The cps had flowers and herbs. The guests' favors were potted herbs. Each table was named after a different herb.

I think you should use your idea as a starting point. But I wouldn't just do the cp as you have it.

I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan. I think it needs more color.

Have you thought of candle centerpieces instead? I'm having 22+ tables and I couldn't justify spending $$$$ on flowers. Here's what I'm doing (the first one), but I have two others posted there for ideas!

I really like it a lot! You could add color by making the ribbon the color of your bridesmaid dresses. I also like the idea of galvinized pails. Someone posted the link on here- they are very inexpensive in bulk.

I am also not a fan of cut flowers or spending 2000 on them. I am doing wooden lighthouses surrounded with petals and votive candles so I like ideas that are different. But not everyone liked my centerpieces either. You have to be unafraid to go against tradition.

In theory I think it's a great idea, but the Carlyle is such a great venue, I think they would look awful in the ballroom. If you are not a big fan of flowers, maybe do something with a Ivy and candles, like Randella, or just candles.

I agree! I think you can make it work if you were to incorporate some other elements into it. Anything can be made to look elegant!

I would put something other than herbs in it. How about making cp out of candles? They arent very expensive and still very romantic.

How about using different smaller containers and votives also? Maybe you can put them on cake stands in the middle of each table to give it some height? That might look nice? I like the herb idea...don't get discouraged!

I love that idea!! I've always wanted my own herb garden and i think that would be wonderful for guests to take home to! It will smell great too!! Very clever! different herbs for different tables would be great too!

Love your idea but this is what I would do different.....I would use different sized and different colored containers that look old and used...not in a dirty way but like white with paint rubbed off. I would also mix in tall piller and low pillar and votive candles. I would mix the herbs and do some tall lavendar, some low mint etc so that each container were different. I think it would come out great as long as it was all different sizes and textures.

I LOVE it - the ONLY thing I would do is put a different color ribbon exactly like the one you have w/ maybe some of the herb tied into the knot of it. W/ the white on white w/ green - it is too bland. Dress it up w/ gold or silver or Hot pink or Yellow or something! HTH!!
