I want to hyphenate. FH isn't happy. But I don't care- my last name is important to me and his will be too- they can be together.
I'm not...does anyone feel like changing your name means your changing your identity? sigh...
I am taking his last name and tacking my last name onto my middle name. It is doesn't really bother me either way, but it is important to FH and I think I would want to have the same last name as my children.
I've been going back and forth about this. I've been teaching for six years, and EVERYBODY knows me (including the kids) by my maiden name. I'm absolutely using my fiance's last name when we have kids when it comes to teacher conferences and PTA stuff, but professionally, my maiden name defines who I am and what I've done as a teacher. My reputation is defined by my last name, and that's what has been making this a really difficult decision for me to make.
I am not changing my name for a little bit.. probably before we have kids or if I get a new job. His last name is actually my last name with more letters.. hahaha
