name change question

name change question

so let's say my name is: jane maddon winters (maddon is middle name and mom's maiden name)

and my fiance's name is: daniel fox

does anyone know if it would be possible...
to drop winters and then hyphenate maddon and fox?
so it would become: jane maddon-fox.

i feel like i've seen places that say you can only change your name to your husband's name or hyphenate your current last name and his. is this true???

does anyone know where i would find this information?

well, it's definitely possible to do that; people can change their name to anything! however, i am not sure it is one of the options when changing your name because of marriage. call the DMV or your town hall--they would know :).

ITA. You wouldn't be able to do it when you do your marriage license (Winters Fox, with no hyphen, won't even be an option). To do this you would just need to take additional steps with I believe social security.
