Name change question

Name change question

For example's sake, let's say I change my last name to both our names hyphenated.

i.e. Rebecca Smith-Jones ...with Smith being my maiden name.

1. If I keep my own independent bank account, do I need to change my name there? I'm sure this is a yes.

but 2. What happens if someone writes me a check to Rebecca Smith OR Rebecca Jones.

Will either be a problem?

Sorry. I wish I could help. I do know that I wrote a check to a someone who actually did change her name from her maiden to married, but I didn't think she did, so I wrote the check to her maiden name. and she said all she had to do was write both names when she endorsed it... Don't know about the account, though!!

My aunt has her name hyphenated and she didn't change anything on paper! She gets checks and other things in both names without a problem. She rarely gets anything in her hyphenated name, mostly her married or maiden.

yeah i don't think it's a big deal for you to get a check w/ your maiden name on it - I would def change your bank account, and then if they have a problem, you can refer to your name change.
