Re: Name Changing........??

I changed my name but my husband told me that I didn't have to. He says that if somebody told him that he had to change is last name he wouldn't like it so he didn't make it an issue. I wanted to so I did.

Re: Name Changing........??

I am not changing, not hyphenating, just staying the same, and he is not mad.

Re: Name Changing........??

actually just got back from getting the marriage license and had to say 'yes' to that question. I am so in love with my FH and it means so much to him that I take his name - but i have one of those one syllable first and last names, and people refer to me all the tmie by both names, I am sad to be losing my name!

Re: Name Changing........??

Im changing ONLY because my FH would be very hurt if I didn't. I really don't like his name but more importantly, don't want to change mine - but I guess I have to give in on some things.

Re: Name Changing........??

I'm still debating this. I LOVE my father soooooo much and I see it as if my last name is 'him'. At the same time I don't want to have a different last name than my children. So, as HARD as it will be I think I'm going to change it for the fact that I want unity in my 'future' family like I have in my 'current' family. Does that sound weird???

If I decide not to change it my FH wouldn't be mad, I think he would be sad

Re: Name Changing........??

Ive seen a few people say this but don't you HAVE TO change your name at work if you legally change it elsewhere? How can you file your taxes with 2 seperate names?

Re: Name Changing........??

My fiance knew from day 1 that dropping my last name was not really going to happen. I asked him if he would change his to mine (since most of our friends call us the mylastname's) but he said no so I asked him how could he ask me to do something he was unwilling to do. He totally agreed. He did ask that our children only have his last name and I agreed to that (even though I feel it is unfair).
The other day when we got our license I surprised him and hypenated my last with his. Probably because he loved me enough to understand how I felt and respected it. He never once said one negative word about my keeping my name.
I am not changing it at work though.

Re: Name Changing........??

I told my FH i would change it, but since my Dad passed, i really dont want to change it, And i know my FH is really excited about me having HIS last name, but I dont know. I think he might be mad if I dont. I know he isnt Willing to take my last name. And even if i kept my own name, our kids would have his and i wanted to carry on my name, ssince there are no more men in my family with the name. And also i dont want to confuse our kids by having two last names. I guess I could hyphen it, but it sounds wierd... AHHHH

Re: Name Changing........??

we're planning to 'create' a new last name once we're married, but for now we're not sure what it will be. It will not be his or mine, we're trying to figure out what to adopt as a new last name.

Re: Name Changing........??

I'm changing my name. I would hyphenate, but both of our names are long. It would be too much of a mouthfull!

Re: Name Changing........??

I am hyphenating. I have a history behind my dad's name and I can't bare to lose it. And I don't want our children questioning why mom has a different last name then all of the others in the family. I went through that as a child and it was a very uncomfortable situation for everyone in my family. I do not want my children to feel what I went through. It would be much easier to explain why I would have two last names than one different last name.

Re: Name Changing........??

I'm changing my middle name to my last name and taking my FH's name. He would be very upset if I didn't.
