Re: Name Changing........??
then don't part with it. Discuss your feelings with your FH. There is NO legal reason to change your name. You don't have to.

Re: Name Changing........??
I didnt want to change my last name. My husband was really upset when I didnt want to and I gave in because I didnt want to hurt him as I could see how hurt he was. I am keeping my name for work. So far I am not changing anything. I wont at least until next year. Even our joint account is still in my last name. Legally you are allowed to use any name you want as long as you are not defrauding anyone. I will look into this further, but for now I am not changing anything. It did mean everything to him for me to have his last name on the license and I wanted to make him happy!

Re: Name Changing........??
I too am changing my name..... reluctantly.
I am making my last name my new middle name and taking my FH last name as my own last name. It is going to be weird to call myself something else!!

Re: Name Changing........??
My FH didn't mind if I kept my current name (he is VERY easy going). I thought about hyphenating our names but that would make my last name 6 syllables (toooooooo long)
so I am taking his name (down to 2 syllables).
He wouldn't be mad or sad if I chose to keep my name. If my daughter were younger I'd probably keep my name somehow but she will be 21 when we are married. Being that we will not be having any children that wasn't even a factor in what name I took.Jodi

Re: Name Changing........??
we have two VERY Itlalian last names - so hyphenating isn't an option. I am a little hesitant. My family is all girls - cousins and all - so the name 'dies' after us. My sister is getting married in Jan. and changing hers. Cannot blame her - she'll be Kelly McGovern...it's like a movie star!My FI wants me to. I think I will change in the end...but gradually for now! Credit cards first!!!!....Business cards later!

Re: Name Changing........??
I changed my last name. Both of us had pretty easy last names, so sometimes I feel like I went from Smith to Jones. Not a big deal to either of us, but I am glad I did. Definitely feel married now!!

Re: Name Changing........??
I am taking his name. (He wouldnt have it any other way...LOL). But I am not a huge fan of the name because it is weird. Plus I think it is weird to be MRS. _______ when that is what his mother is. Maybe one day I will get used to it.

Re: Name Changing........??
I love my name, and I like Kimmie, Michele won't give it up. I will however, compromise, and just add his to the back of mine.I will keep my own middle name, just kind of have 2 last names.
I will use my last name at work, and his when it comes to us having children.

Re: Name Changing........??
Oops, I forgot to say, yes FH was a little hurt at first, but I think he's getting used to the idea of me just adding his after mine.

Re: Name Changing........??
Of course I'm changing my name. I will be proud to take my FH's name. The only way I wouldn't, actually i would hyphenate it.

Re: Name Changing........??
I'm so torn about this, because I really like my last name. My nickname is half of my last name! Plus I've been Jennifer X for so long, it feels weird to all of a sudden be Jennifer Y.I'll probably end up changing my name, it would really upset FH if I didn't (I think). But I almost feel as though I'm having an identity crisis!

Re: Name Changing........??
I changed my last name. I just moved my maiden name to my middle name (since I didn't have one) and added his on as my last name. We are both Italian, so hypenating was out of the question. Waaaaay too long to do that. So, I got to keep my maiden name, and he was happy that I took his last name. Although he told me he didn't mind if I wanted to keep my last name, I know that he was thrilled that I wanted to change it.

Re: Name Changing........??
My plan was to not change at all. But after discussing it, we decided that if he will hyphenate so will I (only problem with this is that both our names are fairly long) We are not totally decided though, we may just keep our own names. I feel a little sad because I think he kind of would like me to change, but he's very sweet and understanding about it.

Not changing my name! Period. Even if my fiance wanted me to, which he doesn't, that is one battle I would fight to the end

Re: Name Changing........??
maybe I will have another talk with my FH about it. If it were under any other circumstances, I would have been honored to take his name. But i dont think I can part with my fathers name. I feel like its one of the only things I have left to remind me of him.Welcome New Vendors
