Name something you didn't have as a child,

Original post by donnasmom

that you indulge yourself with now. Here's my towel story!!! My family was poor. Mom stretched the towels to the limits, giving new meaning to the word, 'washrag'!!!! So, now I have a linen closet filled with beautiful towels!!! Since my DH, ruins washcloths/towels, with the dirt he gathers at work, I buy all white cloths/towels for him, so I can bleach them!!! Sadly, they still don't come clean!!!! Mary MOB

hmm, i can't think of anything really! (that I wanted, anyway.)

the only thing we pretty much weren't allowed to have was nintendo/video games, but we didn't really care that much anyway, nor do I have any now...

but growing up way out on the east end we didn't have chinese buffets around, just take out places, so when I met FH in college he brought me to one and was my first glorious experience hahahha. now i love it! we always joke about that.

I always wanted an easy bake oven, my best friend and my cousin both had one. I was so jealous.

It's still an ongoing joke in my family that I never got one.

sweet cereal... my mom would never buy lucky charms or coco puffs. I used to get soo mad. Once in a while my grandma would buy luckycharms so when I would go there would be the only time I could have it

I know I know I was a very deprived child

Honestly i dont think i was deprived of very much. Thankfully. I mean we were allowed everything but in moderation. The only thing i can say i didnt do until i was a bit older was

SLEEP-OVERS. Not until i was like 12/13 yrs old. I wasnt allowed to sleep out. People could sleep over my house though. FUNNY huh???

i was trying to think of something too and was reading the thread to get ideas but couldnt think of something.

This reminded me of a BIG one though. I always wish i had done gymnastics. My dad actually wanted to take put me in bela karolyi's gymastics program, he is the USA coach. But it was in houston and my mom realized i would probably be away alot and i think she didnt want that, i understand her side and she says she would've missed me. My dad wanted to send me when i was 2-3 years old to start but my mom likes to use the excuse that i was afraid of heights or being on top of things so how would i be able to do it, UHMMMM I was NEVER afraid of heights, i actually love heights and always use to jump off of things as a kid so i know its a lie but its the excuse she goes with i still bother her about this sometimes by saying 'thanks for not putting me in gymnastics '

another thing is that since most of my family is overseas, our vacations was mostly going to see them. Seeing my grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and everybody. I wish i went on other types of trips like other kids to disneyworld, islands and that type of stuff. Well we did go to florida when i was a kid to visit family friends and we were gonna go to disneyworld for the day but it rained everyday i was there , also other small trips we did. But it mostly consisted of us going overseas to visit family. Bc of parents vacation time, they saved it to do this, plus it would cost alot of money to visit bc they always had to buy gifts for everybody and help some family members out. We've also had to go for weddings and that sort of stuff so they saved money to do all this. I understand their point though, i know they wanted to see their parents so cant blame them. Now i like to go to so many different places and plan to go to even more in the future. I dont feel sorry for myself but actually my mom i would say. Since she always had to see her parents and only got 1 vacation a year for work or sometimes she would go years without a vacation, she hasnt been to alot of places. She always hears how others go to all these countries, islands and says she would love so i feel bad that she hasnt seen alot of the rest of the world. Even in the future i know when she gets vacation it will be to visit her parents most likely. I have to take her away somewhere different one day in the future

I was not deprived of anything really when I was growing up. I was pretty spoiled.

The only silly thing to this day that I wish I had was the toy 'Lite Bright' I really wanted it !!
