Names- Who Were You Named For ?

I was named for my maternal Grandmother. My name is Mary Emma. I discovered in later yrs. that Emma, meant, 'nurse', which blew me away, since no one knew that I would be a nurse in later yrs. Mary MOB

My Dad's mom is Jeanne and my Mom's mom Marie ad my Mom's sister s Jeanne Marie- so I'm Jeanne Marie.

Although, sorry kinda long:
Both of my Granmothers actually went by their middle names, not their first names which really are Lillian Jeanne and Agnes Marie. So when my parents found out they were expecting me they told my grandomthers that they were going to name me Lillian Agnes, or Agnes Lillian. Both G'mas said they would never speak to them again if they did that
And I recently found out that my Dad's mom's name isn't really spelt the way I spell it it's Lillian Jean. But when she was in HS and started going by Jean she decided to change the spelling too, to Jeanne.
Many of my Great Aunts also go by their middle names- must have been a trend of their generation

Jeanne Marie, while I have you here, I think, have you seen any post by that gal, we were concerned about, some weeks ago? I have continued to think about her. I think her FH was from N.J.? Mary MOB Do I have the right Jeanne?

I was named after my godfather. His name is Stephen and thats how they got Stephanie and my middle name is my godmothers Elizabeth. My mother was going to call my Brook Lynne! so Iam happy with my name! LOL!

LOL my cousin lucked out to be Brooke Katherine, they always teased that she was almost Brooke Lynn!

I was named after my mom's favorite student when she just started teaching...I think they chose my middle name just because it wen't with my first name...my names are Gina Maria

My mom was trying to get pregnant and didnt at first so she started praying to Mary and Saint Elizabeth- so when I was born, I was named Mary Elisabeth- but I use Marybeth since thats so long

Similar story- My youngest sister's name is Anarita, she was named after my Grandfathers cousin (side note-she was a nun) who got the name Anarita b/c her parents had tried for many years to have a baby and her mother, Ana, went to church everyday and prayed to St. Rita so she wanted to name the baby Rita but her father wanted the baby to be named after her mother Ana, so they combined the names Anarita.

My mom didn't name my brother and I after anyone, on purpose. MY middle name's Elizabeth, so I college I started going by Lori Beth.:) It was a fresh start!

my dad wanted to name me Eileen (after my mom) - she said NO WAY! so they decided to make it my middle name.

My mom wanted a nice Irish name, and they decided on Shannon. And lucky me, my mom likes to be 'different' and changed the spelling to s.h.a.n.o.n.

I love my name, always have, just hate that i have never gotten any cute personalized things from stores.

My name is Kerin Kathleen. My dad wanted Karen, my mom wantd Keri, but her friend had recently used the name or Erin. They compromised on my first name. The middle name is for my late godmother also my dad's little sister.

My mom is a big Shirley Temple fan and her favorite movie is Susannah of the Mounties...so that is how I got the name, Susannah. My middle name Marie, comes from my grandmother who is Rose Marie. I plan to have my daughter's middle name as Rose.
