Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
Honestly this whole naming the baby is sooo hard. My DH and I cannot seem to agree on boy's names, or atleast one boy's name. We have 3 girl's names that we both really like and will pick the 'one' in the hospital when we see the baby BUT these boy's name are driving me nuts. Everything I really like he hates. His name choses usually involve some member of the Hall of Fame (sports) and are just not what I like. He was very excited about the idea of naming our child Brady- after the Patriot's quarterback. Okay, for one, I hate sports and for two, I think don't like sports. So I tried to comprimise and I said fine, the guy's name is Thomas and that is my Dad's name so it will be fine with me. But no, Scott doesn't want that name. He wants Brady. And I don't like that. Then I liked Kyle and he hates that. This is a never ending pattern of difficulty. How did you all do it? How did you both finally like the same name?

Re: Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
We've agreed that whoever goes through labor, gets to name the baby LOL(it's a spinn off from whoever cooks, gets to pick the formal china...I just can't lose)
Sorry you two can't seem to agree.
I actually like Brady and Kyle...maybe you can compromise and use Kyle as the first name and Brady as a middle name?

Re: Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
Brady...is also from Sex and the City...
maybe you guys could come up with a list of about 10 each and go through each list...one at a time (like Elaine and Joel Ripkin on Seinfeld) and see what you can compromise at...
I don't think my dad had much say on my name...but he did say he stepped in when my mom wanted my middle name to be Wilhelmina

I do not like Brady at all
I am with you Michelle, My GF & her hubby had the same issue, so they chose 2 names and when the baby was born at the hospital it seem as if something came overr them and they agreed to name him right on the spot after mons of not agreeing. I hope you and Scott finds a new that you both agree on

We are also struggling with names, so I know how you feel. One compromise we agreed on is that if someone says NO emphatically, we move on to another name (I lost a lot of good ones that way!
). In my opinion, if you really can't see yourself with a son named Brady, it should be off the list.Right now we are down to 2 boys names and 2 girls names, and are at a stalemate.

I am not looking forward to this process. If it's a boy, my husband wants him to be Jr. I do not want a Jr. He also has a name picked out for a girl. Now, you know I am looking at him as if he is crazy -- he is acting like he has this all figured out. When the time comes for deciding, I will have to remind him that I am carrying this baby.

Re: Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
i always find that I associate a name with a person I know or know of. I am a loyal fan of days Of Our Lives and there is a character on their named Brady and in real life his name is Kyle - what a coincidence. I happen to like both names too.I found it much easier to pick a girls name and agree then a boys name. We were driving in the car when Nick said how about Justin, which I actually really liked, so I guess we lucked out.

Re: Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
I actually LOVE the name Brady! But you do have to have some say.I wanted to name my son my maiden name. It sounds great w/ our last name. But, he fought me on it. So then we decided if I wanted to honor my Father we'd have to honor his. So we named him Patrick. And his middle name is my maiden name. And truth be told my son is a 100% Patrick!
Did you see the Friends episode when it came to naming Ross & Rachels baby. the names didn't fit her. That does happen!!! You might have a boy look down at him & say 'Oh my God he looks like a Brady!!'

Re: Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
Keep tossing names back and forth, you will come up with something. We never fully agreed on 1 girl's name but we had a few we both liked well enough. I remember at one point that we would both scan every magazine, book, article, advertisement for girl's names and would say them to each other to see if anything clicked for us both. Luckily for our naming decision we had a boy and we both loved the name Luke from early on. One thing I know - your child will not go nameless. You will find the perfect name for him or her. Keep the faith

Brady is my maiden name!! i actually have to say I would love to have my boy's first name be that, but I don't think hubby would got for it!!Good Luck with your decision!!
Oh, and on the topic of going nameless... My youngest sister, the youngest of my parents 7 children (one died at birth) went home fom the hospital nameless. Her original birth certificate says Baby Girl Brady. I kid you not when I say it was 2 weeks before they settled on a name, and they named her after my mother in the end!

I guess you both have to keep coming up with names until you finally agree on something.

Re: Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
My grandmother couldn't think of a name for my mom (she was sure she was having a boy!) and named her after the woman she shared a room with in the hospital.

Re: Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
Michelle, do you find that you care more or less about the name depending on the sex of the baby? Its so odd, Lenny wants to name the boy Max, but girls he doesn't have a strong preferrence (he just doesn't seem to like any of the more romantic names because he associates them with prostitutes)... So I am giving him Max if a boy comes, but if a girl, we may have to do some negotiating.
My parents wanted to call me Alice, but the hospital staff talked them out of it b/c of a bad cartoon character, and they didn't want me to be teased. When I was almost four, I got ot name my siblings (twin brother and sister) and I picked the names of my good friends in day care at that time.
I guess you'll have to keep on looking
Or hope that its

AlinaThat's cute that your parents let you name your sibs. A friend of mine did that with her daughter too. Her daughter is Haley and she was 2 1/2 at the time her brother was born and she picked the name Henry. I think she did a good job

I actually had a different name when I was born--I was Renee Marie for a day until my 5 year old Aunt told my mom that she should've named me Danielle, well, I guess my mom took her advice

Re: Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
I feel your pain, Michele!!! One piece of advice that I do have is try to settle this sooner than later!!!
We're 17 days away from our EDD and we honestly have not *completely* agreed on ANY name!!! We have possibilities... truthfully, I think Steve will cave in when the baby arrives and we'll use *my* choice!! At least that's what I'm hoping!!
Good luck!!

Re: Naming Vent-- how can it be this hard?
I'm also of the opinion that you BOTH have to be happy with the name in order for it to be considered. If you don't like Brady, then off the list it goes! And I can't say that I think its too fair to the dads to pull rank just b/c you're having the baby .... its their baby too, sorry .... JMO.Keep working on it, Michele .... you'll come to an agreement. maybe you will need to see him/her in order to know. That's ok too!
But look on the bright side .... you could be arguing with him over 'Truman'. That's what my SIL is naming their baby (they already know its a
) .... and they're naming it after Truman Capote!
No offense to any fans out there ... but no one's very happy about this!
Especially after she insulted my Italian heritage.Good luck & keep us posted!

thankfully Scott does not want to name our child Truman
we are both trying to agree. I pick names for 'trial days' and call the baby by the name - only boy's names though since I swear I am having a boy. this week is Shane, because Scott loves it and it is MUCH better than Brady! So far, we like it though. we'll see.
