Necessary to have a registry?

Necessary to have a registry?

I am a little unsure as to whether I want to do a registry or not. I do not want my guests to go out and buy me expensive gifts and I can only use so many sets of towels, sheets, blenders, and coffee makers. I have come across registries where brides ask for $500 espresso machines and $200 kitchen knives. I do not want to ask guests for things like that. I am also afraid if I do register there will only be 5 or 6 items on the registry.

Do you already live with fh and have everything you need? What about a HM registry?

I have my own place.

It is not necessary but probably recommended.
If you register, then people will get you what you want. Some people like getting gifts for others instead of giving money, so at least you can exchange or return if you have a registry.

You should def register for some things, if you don't you could end up with who knows what from who knows where and then you're stuck with it because you can't return it.

Sometimes it's nice to have a new set of sheets! If not, I would set up a honeymoon registry!

You can register on Amazon. Then you can register for things that aren't home-related?

I think you should register so people will know what you need (although you may have items from living with you FH, you may need some new things or things that are worn out)..think of it as a wish list...just because you have some expensive items doesn't mean that you expect people to buy them for you. If they don't want to spend a lot of $ then they don't have to-it's entirely up to them, just make sure you do have reasonably priced items on there. also, some people may chip in together to get you some of those bigger items, so it works out the same

If you want something that costs $300, then I would still register for it. One person won't buy you that but a bunch of people might do a group gift. It definitely happens.

i guess you dont have to register, but it would be nice to have some new stuff sometimes, or maybe luggage and stuff like that? as long as you put a range of price points i dont think its bad to ask for things you'd like for your home.

plus if you font register i take it then you wont be having a bridal shower since youre saying you have everything? otherwise if you do you'd be making it a lot more difficult for people to get you stuff

Register. It makes people happy. Its better to register then to not register and hear non stop complaining. Do a HM registry, register at BBB for lugguge, picture frames, something, register at best buy for electronics, movies. Whatever these are just some suggestions. I went to one shower where the bride wasn't registered and people I didn't know were bitching about how inconvient it was and how it can come off as tacky bc it looks like you are only asking for cash

I was in a similar position where I *thought* I would only have a few things to register for b/c I've been on my own for several years now. But once I found my china, and hit up BBB and Macys, I found lots of things to register for. Don't forget about luggage too!

FH and I have been living together for a year now and we didn't know what to register for ... we set up a honeymoon registry, a williams-sonoma one (i LOVE them!), and an amazon one.

We have things like a playstation3, house organization things (like kitchen cabinets), a wine decanter, some art for the walls, curtains, a new side table, fancy new pots & pans, pot & pan storage units, etc

i'm sure you could find plenty of things to add to your registry

just remember to add all sorts of price ranges so that people don't feel obligated to spend so much, as you mentioned.

I am not registering...

Actually to be honest I never liked receiving invitations filled with registry cards of the various places a couple registered. I said that I wouldnt do that myself--it seems too gift-grabby and in your face for my style. If you don't register, people will just give you money.

On the other hand--if you are having a shower it may be a better idea to register and then your your MOH can include a note with your registry info.

Some people like giving you things, it makes them feel good. I know I do! How about a HM registry. Believe me, you can find stuff at BBB you'd never thought you need..or get things that might need updating or need to be coordinated.

I'm not registering b/c I don't want a shower..we live together and buy our things plus showers are usually really close to the wedding so I don't want people spending money

But if your having a shower you should like the other girls said it's better to get things you will want than a bunch that you don't

Not everyone will give cash. And I wouldnt trust some people's taste in gifts. I actually got one towel for my eparty (a single towel)LOL
or they may get you some ugly chachke. We registered at Target and picked gifts from different price ranges. Give them an idea of what you like, otherwise they will be left to guess..

Re: Necessary to have a registry?

I think if you are having a shower only because if you don't then you are going to get all those gifts anyhow and they aren't going to necessarily be the ones you want. I would just register. If they cant afford to buy you something on there they wont! When i registered I made sure I had things of all price ranges on there. Most of the expensive stuff I actually did get but a few people chipped in to get it for me. I think having a registry will save you the headache of having to return or exchange a million things. If you are not having a shower than the registry is not necessary IMO

Re: Necessary to have a registry?

I'm not registering but I also don't plan on having a shower though. Even if I do get thrown a surprise one, people can just pick gifts out on their own like they did for all the years before registeries. How hard is it for someone to pick out a gift for a shower? The last registery I had to buy stuff from, 75% of the stuff was not sold at the store after the website said it was, now that was annoying. Also, my friend who had her baby shower told me that like 90% of the stuff she got was not from her registery so all because you have one doesn't mean people aren't just going to buy what they want anyway.
