Need a Way to thicken Sauce

Need a Way to thicken Sauce

Danielle and I are doing low carb and we can not have flour. I am making chicken cacciatorre tonight for dinner in the crock pot and I was wondering if there was a way to thicken the sauce without using white flour?

Someone told me to puree the sauce in a blender or food processor...but I wasnt sure if that was good or not.

Any other ideas as to what I can add to the sauce?
Thanks,
Scott

What's the recipe you're using? If it calls for some white wine or vinegar, just use less. If it calls for water, I would omit.

You can try tomato paste, or add canned tomatos - as they cook they'll get very soft and almost become part of the sauce.

I dont think so....

I think if you let it cook longer, the moisture will evaporate, leaving it thicker.

oh add a little corn starch. you only need like a tablespoon....it won't kill your diet. I use it in all my soups, cause I love them super thick

ha ha
this is what i was going to say...

I didn't realize it was in a crock pot- my onll experience with suace in on a stop top, not sure how moisture & evaporation differs in a slow cooker.

In that case, I agreee with Farah. Look and the ingredients & see how you can reduce moisture.

I never put flour or cornstarch in tomatato sauce--only in broth based gravies, like chicken or turkey gravy.

I just use crushed tomatoes. I would say don't use tomota sauce, use crushed or pureed tomoates. I think tomato sauce has water added to it. I'm not sure though, check the can.

I think with low carb diets though, it's kinda all or nothing though.

I guess you're right...I was actually going to suggest the corn starch--but was LOL-ing to jenny2penny saying: 'oh just use it'

low carb to no carb so that means no corn starch. A little here and a little there adds up to a lot, you dont realize it

I eat veggies but only green ones...The only fruit I can eat are berries....straw berries and blue berries....NO beer or Wine unfortunately....but I can have vodka or rum because there are no carbs in it.

I use tomato paste and diced tomatoes in my sauce.....no regular tomato sauce.

Then you should be good. I didn't think the sauce for chicken cacciatore was very thick anyway.
