He dosent take posed shots this photographer does all candid and photojournalistic shots... most of the things would be the little detail shots.. the ball room during set up, people at ch hour ( while the other 2 photographers are taking pics of bride and dh), the centerpieces, place cards, the outside of the church...

does 'she' not have faith in her original photographer to get these shots? Honestly, that seems like even more of a waste. If the photographer was going to take the important shots, that's one thing, but I really wouldn't want a million and two detail shots, but again, that's just me.
However, if 'she' plans on going with table cameras, this might be a better option, and will work out to be about the same price.

It not that 'she' dosent have faith in her photographers its just shes seen tuns of this persons work and loves it. second he would take all shots, improtant or not, and last 'she' thinks the detail shots are important and nice to have.. isnt it better for the same price to have professional shots then ones from a disposable camera ???

Re: Need advice...

But does 'she' honestly think that her contracted photographer can't take these shots or does she just wnat this photographer to shoot it, none of the shots that you mentioned are an impossible task for 'her' contracted photographer to do....

I understand that but basically its the same thing as putting cameras on the table... your photographers cant get every little thing.. this way she gets professional shots of everything she wants.... I dunno.. im

I understand that your photgrapher can't get every little thing but if 'she' makes that the focus of 'her' decision then she would drive herself nuts. Even having the photographer for the extra 3 hours is really not enough either then, maybe she needs him during the rest of the reception also..etc.etc.........u see how it gets crazy....

she couldnt afford the company he works for.. he would be doing this on the side.. no packages, no albums, no extra crap.. just him taking pics.
She still loves the first company and needs them as well....

Re: Need advice...

I say go for it... er, 'she' should go for it. Just read over the contract of the booked photographers carefully first. I don't see what the big deal is... one of her guests happens to be a professional photographer and will be there taking great pics as a guest. Period.

Re: Need advice...

I did it! I really wanted someone besides my regular photographer to do the photojournalistic and candid shots (and I paid more than $150). He was there the entire day--from me getting dressed to the very end of the reception. I didn't even know that he was aroung--my bridal party kept saying that I had the papparzi at the wedding (since he was in the bushes at one point--hehe!) And I have to say that I do not regret doing it--The photos are FABULOUS!!! I will post them as soon as I can--But to me it was worth it!

Re: Need advice...

not sure why everyone is confused, i understand fully.

i just checked my contract and it states:

'Exclusive Phootgrapher: The Photographer shall be the exclusive photographer retained by the client for the purpose of photographing the wedding. Family and friends of the lcient shall be oermitted to photgraph the wedding as long as they shall not interfere w/ the Photographer's duties.

so , basically as long as this 'photographer' friend doesn't interfere w/ the contracted photographers job, i don't see why there would be a problem.

i say your 'friend' should go for it. one can NEVER have too many pics.

the photographer is offering the friend services at a reduced rate (friend of a friend) and the photographer is not shooting the entire wedding.

It seems as though 'she' has made up her mind, and I personally think 'she' should feel fine about that decision

Re: Need advice...

Wait, I got one for ya. The wedding circuit is not really that big. They do expos together, whatever. What if the 1st photographer recognizes the 2nd or a guest at the wedding knows the 2nd and blurts it out, that's breach of contract. I don't mean to sound paranoid or make 'her' paranoid, JMO: I wouldn't go there. Why can't 'she' just tell the 1st photographer that she really wants some photojournalistic shots mixed in. Most photographers do both these days. Patken and several other places only use 1 photographer to do both kinds of shots, or maybe the 1st company can just assign a different photographer that can do it all. I don't know just some stuff to think about.
