Need Advice

Need Advice

Okay Ladies - I need your advice. My FH and I are having a very quick engagement (we just bought a house at the end of April on LI, got engaged on May 31st, and are getting married September 21st)!

I feel like since we had already bought the house together and everyone knew that we were getting married, when Marc actually proposed no one made a big deal about it. Marc and I decided that we were not going to have all the bridesmaids and groomsmen with the exception of our immediate family. So my MOH is my sister and his groomsmen are his brothers and my brother in law. Now here is where the advice part is needed....I want a shower. We didn't have an engagement party or ANYTHING at all to celebrate our engagement or impending marriage and I would really like to have a shower (I threw my sister a shower with her bridesmaids when she was getting married). Now to further throw a monkeywrench into it...my sister just had a baby last week (and she has a 17 month old) so I know that she is busy and probably doesn't have enough time to do it all.

My FH and I are paying for the wedding all by ourselves also....

Sorry for the long post.....but what do you guys think?

I think you're totally entitled to a shower...why not have it at your new home? A simple get together with some catered foods and drinks for the ladies?

i have a friend and cousin who both had very short engagements. they both had showers; their moms threw them (that's what we normally do, moms/sisters). you are totally entitled to a shower.

you should DEFINITELY have a shower? why not ask your MOH and your mom to help you host something at your new house?

if you want you can even throw a jack and jill shower for both guys and girls. this way you and FH can open presents together

Totally agree you are entitled and you shouldn't have to plan it but I agree your sister is probably pretty busy. Can your Mom do it?

Yeah...thanks. I don't think that my mother would do it all on her own....Maybe I will try to approach the topic at some point today and see her reaction. I just don't want to put anyone out either.....UGH!

This might be something fun for your mom and your FH's mom to do together... that way neither one of them is bearing the brunt of all of the planning and they could really get to know each other.

Re: Need Advice

you should definitely have a shower~~

if you think it will be a hassle on your family why not help your mother plan it? i thought it was a hassle for my sister because she was 6months preggo so I decided to help her. i did the invites, rsvps and checked out the restaurant. I kept the decorations a surprise. I LOVED the outcome of my shower!!

Re: Need Advice

Can you throw together a housewarming/engagment party? Or instead of your sister planning a shower, ask 2 or 3 close friends to help plan it (my sister, the MOH, lives far away and is still in school so my friends are actually planning some stuff for me even though I also decided not to have bridesmaids).
