Need advice...

Need advice...

Im crashing from LIF.. hope you all dont mind....

Here's the back story... DH and I got married 1/4/08 at town hall with just our 2 witnesses present. He is in the army and needed to be in Kansas only 10 days afer returning from a year long deployment in Korea. NOW.. DH is deployed to Iraq and will be there until Oct of this year. We want our big wedding soooo bad.

Is it weird to do it when he gets home from deployment? If you knew us personally and found out we decided to go ahead and have our wedding 2 years later, would you think we were crazy? Just trying to get some honest opinions here, I know my friends and family will all just say ' thats great!' to make me happy, but I want true opinions. Thanks in advance!

I think it's a good idea considering the situation.

My FH friend's sister got engaged Christmas eve but her FH is going to the Air National Guard training and won't be home till next Feb so she is left with 3 days to choose from before he leaves again.

I think that you guys need to do whats best for you and the time frame that you have.

i think its a great idea...you deserve a big wedding if you want one..so go ahead and have one!!

my aunt (catsgirl) is also on this site & she got married in 08 as well, and her daughter is doing the same thing..she is already married to a man in the military, but i believe she is having her big wedding in 2011

Re: Need advice...

I think there's absolutely nothing wrong with having your big wedding after the actual marriage ceremony! People do this ALL the time... lots of them get married for tons of reasons in a civil ceremony or whatever (having a baby, need insurance, retirement $$ options, etc.) and then have the big wedding when they can afford to or when they're available. You should not miss out on that because of your husband's service to the country and everyone will get that Plan away!!

The only thing you MIGHT want to consider is re-wording the ceremony to be a recommitment of your marriage vows, otherwise it might sound like a fake ceremony. It can be a real ceremony with real promises etc. but I would acknowledge that you are reaffirming that commitment to each other.

I would definitely do it. You did the city hall thing because that's what needed to be done then. If you can have the big wedding now, go for it.

Re: Need advice...

i think its perfectly fine. actually two of my friends had intimate ceremonies since they wanted to get married at the time but didnt have money for a big wedding...so they just got married...then a year later they had a big reception/party. it was great. the coolest thing was when they showed pics of their marriage. it made it even more special.

as an idea, why not hold it on one of your 'anniversaries'? you can even renew vows!

i dont think theres anything wrong with it!!!

i agree with the person that said you might wanna call the ceremony a 're-committment ceremony' or 'renewal of vows'

but def go for the big PART-AY!!!

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I'm sure there are alot of people that want to 'see' you get married. And who doesn't want to have a big wedding? I say go for it- its not one bit weird.

i agree...people in your life know your situation so they should be able to understand why you are doing it this way. You both deserve your big party and thank your DH for me from the bottom of my heart for doing what he does
