NEED ADVICE!!!

NEED ADVICE!!!

OKay, so I'd like to ask you all for some advice and what you guys would do or suggest: My wedding date is set for November 4, 2012 which is a Sunday. We have a hall in mind who would give us a deal of cutting the price per person by $15 dollars cheaper if we do it in the winter. My second date I have in mind is March 31, 2012 which is a Saturday. However, NOTHING is booked and this is 8 months in advance of what I had originally planned.

Now if I change the date to March, I am saving about $4,500 just from the hall. I haven't booked any vendors yet, but I am assuming I can find deals for the time of year as well. Our photography is being done by FH's uncle who is a wedding photography. We are not the traditional bride/groom, so our bridal party is limited, there will be no bachelorette/bachelor party or a formal rehearsal dinner.

I have less than a year now to plan if we change the date...WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS SUGGEST OR DO?!?!?!

My FMIL thinks March 31, 2012 is a great idea for the cost fator, and the fact her son is getting out sooner than she thought LMAO =)))) I am going to ask around as well and play out the pros/cons. But I'd like some advice!!

Re: NEED ADVICE!!!

Its still totally do-able to move the date up a few months. The idea of saving that money would be tempting for us as well LOL I might honestly go for it. Between saving money :big thumbs up: and being married sooner ::even bigger thumbs up:: im at the point im just really excited and wish it was soon too LOL

but if its not putting out your guests or WP and most of all YOURSELF LOL then I might actually go for it :) your not losing anything

Its totally doable lots of people plan their wedding in less then a year. Its just a bit more stressful. It also depends on if you think you can have the money to have the wedding in that amount of time. As long as you are comfortable with that time frame i think you could totally do it!

Yes, it's more stressful to have the wedding sooner but I think a year should be a good amount of time to plan a lovely wedding that you'll both enjoy and remmember for the rest of your lives. I was in a similar situation as I wanted a June or September wedding and FH just wanted to get married ASAP! We ended booking at the end of April and saving a good amount compared to their June prices. In your case you're saving EVEN MORE that's a STEAL! Did you ask about April? April pricing might also be good and that gives you an extra month over a March wedding and the weather might be nicer?
we asked our catering hall the difference in price between March and April and they told us it was $4 less in March. Ask for all your options! That's what we did! Look at all your numbers and see what makes most sense for you and your FH.
Keep us posted.

I think it's totally doable to move the wedding up a few months (and in your case worth it, since you'll be saving some money). You'll really have to get to work on booking the rest of your vendors since you have less than a year but it can definitely get done... my aunt and uncle planned their wedding in less than 6mos!

Re: NEED ADVICE!!!

Thank you so much girls!! The tricky thing is that I am in school too....and I am only allowed two absences!! I am graduating in May of 2012, so I am trying to see what I can do. December-March is their best pricing as what months I asked for the best pricing. I am going to talk to FH later tonight when I get home from school and see what he thinks also. Tomorrow I should be hearing from the RH and I will ask the manager about April as well.

Thank you girls for the input and as soon as I have this figured out, I will update you guys also! I am hoping by this weekend. Scary thing is that I am planning my engagement party and wedding simultaneously. I want to rip the hair out of my head!!!!

if neither of you care about the change in date go for it.. you can put the money else where

Re: NEED ADVICE!!!

also what just came to my mind, since you are actually doing the hall a favor by taking a date they needed to fill. they will be able to help you with anything you need also.

your paying them, use them for everything you need to make your life easier!

when we booked our hall in jan, our BM actually offered us a great deal for this past april 1st (2011) my head almost spun when i tried to imagine planning a wedding in 3 months, but they wanted us to take the date off their hands so badly they were even offering to go dress shopping with me and help with any and everything we needed to pull it off.

so im sure if you booked the date and said it would be hard to get it all done sooner then you were planning they would do anything to help.

Re: NEED ADVICE!!!

Its April 11, 2011 and the potential new date is March 31, 2012. That is like 2 weeks shy of a year, which I think is very doable!! Most 'Check list time lines' start at the 12 month mark where you basically are and you potentially already have two big checks! (RH and photographter!)

That is definitely a nice sum of money for you to save for other vendors or honeymoon or buying a home or whatever!! IMO it's worth it!!

Re: NEED ADVICE!!!

Since you're in school I would say then try to plan it when you'll be less stressed? Would getting married the week before or after Spring break be better for you? I don't know if you can tell which week that would be but it might help since you get more time off? (If you do, that is) It can be stressful, but you'll be OK either way. In the end we're marrying the loves of our lives and maybe you can just get most of the planning done between now and the end of this summer?

I say do it!!!!! Move the wedding up. You are shy of a year and that is plenty of time to plan a wedding!!

Re: NEED ADVICE!!!

You pretty much have a full year of planning, so it is def do-able....but you would have to start asap.....as long as you have the Hall, you can always find everything else! I personally like the idea of a Saturday rather than a Sunday

Re: NEED ADVICE!!!

It is definitely doable to plan the wedding in 8 months. I do not know who is paying for the wedding but if you and your FH are remember that you have about 8 months less to save money.

Something to consider!

Re: NEED ADVICE!!!

Having the wedding 8 months sooner I don't think is an issue, you have a little less than a year to plan which I think is plenty. We booked our wedding for next March just under a year out as well.
Especially if you're paying for the entire wedding yourselves, the savings of $4,500.00 is definitely a worthwhile reason to do it.
I would say the only reason why you may not want to do so is b/c you are currently in school. I can understand how there could be more stress w/ planning and finishing school so close.

Re: NEED ADVICE!!!

$4500 is a lot so if you want to move it up, def do so b/c time really shouldnt be an issue.

I would say the only con is that March the weather is still very iffy v. November but if that doesnt matter then make the switch!

HTH - keep us updated!
