Need advice!

Need advice!

Please post your opinions:

I am trying to pick out a date for our wedding...so far, FH and I agree that Thanksgiving Eve would be a good choice for our guests. We have no out of town guests, EVERYONE lives locally and this shouldn't cause a problem.....

I have heard mix reveiws, but I just wanted to see what you girls thought of this =)

Honeymoon would be taken sometime after Thanksgiving or even after Christmas.

i think your friends might be a little annoyed that they can't spend thanksgiving with their families ... but if you do choose that date, i'm sure people would still come and have a great time ... i know i would!

also, i think a lot of people want to eat turkey on thanksgiving so if you do choose that day, you should have some sort of turkey option on your menu

LOL I said Thanksgiving Eve, I wouldn't do Thanksgiving. The majority of our guests will be family- maybe 20-25 total guests of friends.

Even though everyone is local, there is a possibility that people normally go out of town to visit family for Thanksgiving, so that's a little tricky. Ultimately, the people who want to be there will be there no matter what, so you should pick the date that's best for you.

Yeah we are debating it and I just find it to be a good deal for us.

I agree with this as well...whoever wants to come will be there =) Its funny because one of FH's Aunt's does Thanksgiving so everyone will be there. I am just so excited!

I think you should choose a date that is best for you, but keep in mind that by picking this date, you are definitely exposing yourselves to the chance that a bunch of your friends (and even some family) may not come as they might have other Thanksgiving plans and may be out of town. I personally am not a fan of the date, but like I said - it's your wedding so you need to do what's best for you and your FH.

You know your friends and family best, so if you know that they stay local for the holidays and you really want to do your wedding then, then I say book it! Those who want to be there will, and hopefully everyone can! A friend of mine's brother had his wedding on this date and she said it was beautiful and everyone had a great time! It worked for them because everyone was local! HTH

Re: Need advice!

Not that your rude, but please read carefully. I am not having my wedding on Thanksgiving day. I said Thanksgiving EVE, the day BEFORE Thanksgiving.

Re: Need advice!

Did you price out other days? Maybe the Friday after?

No matter what you do people always have something to say so do what's best for you.

Honeymoon may better to go on after thanksgiving bc the week after Xmas is pricey and lots of kids.

Good luck!

Re: Need advice!

Yeah, the Friday the day after is expensive :( GRR!!! And I didn't even think about that in regards to the honeymoon. Good thinking!!!!

Re: Need advice!

maybe just throw it out to a few of your friends and see what they think about it? it's such a big night out that hey, why not get everyone together for your wedding?

if you do end up picking Thanksgiving Eve, definitely make sure to send STDs early!

good luck!

Re: Need advice!

Personally I don't think I would choose that date since a LOT of prep goes into making a Thanksgiving meal which I know a lot of people take off on Wednesday from work to do vegetables, make stuffing etc so that they just have to warm stuff up in the oven on Thursday. You know your family best but I would keep on researching for other dates and price it out.

Re: Need advice!

My fiance's friends had their wedding on TG Eve and they saved a lottttt of money. I actually didn't mind going to a wedding on TG at all - it gave us something to do on the biggest party night out of the year.

Also, they hosted a dinner the following night and invited all of their OOT guests.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it's a BAD TRAFFIC DAY/EVENING. If you do decide to go with this date, make sure everyone has sufficient time to travel.

I would go to a wedding on Thanksgiving Eve because FH and I love to go out drinking and dancing that night anyway

Not sure how other guests might feel tho? I know it might be hard if they have children or live out of town... but you know your guests the best. Would they attend?

Re: Need advice!

Hey, did my FM help prompt this idea??

I obviously think its a great idea since it's my wedding day hehe.... and my family who usually does Thanksgiving day at their house are actually excited to have the excuse to pass it off to someone else in the family (in-laws who I don't know). Others have had the idea to do the prep Tuesday night instead (who cares if it's one day ahead or two???). Also, we noticed that in the same way some people would be travelling away for thanksgiving, we have some special folks in our lives who maybe wouldn't be able to fly in just for a wedding but would be in anyway for thanksgiving. So, it can go either way. And yea, the friday after is definitely no bargain!

GL and let us know what you decide!!!

Re: Need advice!

I would be fine with going to a wedding on Thanksgiving Eve.. I am usually at home that night anyways so it would give me a reason to go out!

I think you would need to do what's best for you and your FH :)
