Need advice about inviting coworkers...

Need advice about inviting coworkers...

I've been putting off this decision for so long that I have to now print new RSVP cards to give them time to respond but...

I would love to invite people from work since, heck, we spend more time with them then our own families. However, because of our large list, I can only afford to invite only 6 - 7 more people (we initially budgeted for 190 guests, now it's looking more like 230!!!)

This means:
(A) Invite 3 coworkers (my boss and my two assistants) and their spouses

or

(B) Invite all 7 in the department without any guests. We all work closely together I'm closer to some others than my boss or one of the assistants.

I'm so torn! I think this has stressed me out more than anything else!! What do you girls think?

THANKS!!

Well honestly if they are married, I think it would be rude to invite them without their spouses.
I would invite those to whom you are closest but if they are married DEFINITELY invite them with their spouse.

I invited a few married coworkers w/ their spouses but my single coworkers were nivited alone. They know others there so it wont be an issue.

JMO.... hope this helped you.

what I plan on doing is putting all my cowrkers on the B list . i will send out all the a list invites and then depending on how many nos i get i will then decide on coworkers and then send them there invites.. people understand how expensive weddings are ... i really think its the only responsible way to handle such a touchy issue...

i would not invite soemoen without a guest especially if they are married

I think I would invite all the coworkers withouth their significant other...They will all end up sitting together and hanging out anyhow, its not like they will be alone. Thats what I would do. Since i am only inviting 3 ppl from work I am inviting them with their husbans/wives.

I was acutally going to do this as well.. In my dept there are 8 ppl and most are married so that would be 16 extra ppl! ... If I get alot of No's then I will invite them but the single ppl I am inviting without a guest... they are all sitting at the same table so they will have someone to talk to

Re: Need advice about inviting coworkers...

Thanks girls!!

My 'A' list deadline is today, and we have only received like just over half of the responses...out of which only 3 were declines. If we had received more declines, or even more responses, I would have been able to know for sure if I can invite everyone I wanted to. On one hand, I'm glad people want to attend my wedding, but on the other hand, what happened to 30% declines? I guess there is no exact formula!

To those of you who have A and B lists: allow for plenty of time! I mailed out my invites 11 weeks before the wedding and it's still not enough time!!

Thanks so much!!

This is what I'm doing. Unless they are in serious relationship or married, they are getting a solo invite.

Re: Need advice about inviting coworkers...

we have a few co-workers that we are closer with so they are included as the friend list. thankfully, FH and i work together so they are the same for both of us. we kept it very limited from work, we're only inviting 3 people from work with a guest.

What we did was count our co-workers and spouses are part of the final count... only b/c we do soo much with them out of work with their spouses, so they are like family... LOL. But, in your situation, i think just inviting everyone, (less drama) just not their spouses as well. JMO.

I'd invite all or none (if you're all close). And you have to invite them with their spouse. I know it's a lot of people, but you really would feel bad to exclude some people...and then be talking about your wedding at work, you know?

Re: Need advice about inviting coworkers...

I've been going back and forth about this as well. I am definitely inviting:

1. my director of fine/performing arts (my direct boss)
2. all of the music teachers I directly work with (band teacher who I share rooms with and two chorus teachers--one in each school)
3. the woman I replaced six years ago--she moved up to the HS
4. my closest friend in the music department who's a BM

#4 thinks I should also invite my principals and a few more music teachers in our department, but we REALLY can't afford it. We're way over in the number of people on our guest list because we both have big families. I can't invite any more work people unless we get a LOT of no replies, but I don't want to cause any hard feelings. UGH!!!!!!

Re: Need advice about inviting coworkers...

Right now my coworkers aren't even on the B list, but I think that I would probably invite them with guests. It's too small a company to get away with not inviting them with guests, because it would make things very uncomfortable at work. On the one hand, it'd be like a table and a half if everyone showed, but it would be worse if I invited them single and then one person didn't fit at the table, and then they don't even have a guest.

Re: Need advice about inviting coworkers...

I am not inviting everyone I work with - only the 3 people I have relationships with outside of the office. Oh and the 4 partners (my bosses). Everyone (except for me) is married already and they will be invitied with their spouses.

When I get married, I will only be at this firm for 2 years. However, I've worked with one of the partners and the 3 other co-workers for years and years at another firm before we all came over.
