Need advice on buying a car

We are looking to buy a minivan or a SUV next month, since we have a tribe not a family Anyhow, I dont really like car salesmen since when I bought my car I had a bad experience and when FH leased his jeep and we went to renew we ran into some real shady people. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a minivan or SUV? We will probably have to buy used since we dont have perfect credit(2002-2004)and will need special financing. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you were buying new.... i could have sent you over to Major Jeep in Long Island City. I know a few of the salespeople there.

But used... thats another animal. No matter what you do... there will always be shady dealings when buying used.

Just make sure you buy something that still has some factory warranty left (at least 6 months worth).

Thats my best advice.

Brian Smith is the manager at Smithtown Toyota, used car division. He doesn't JUST sell Toyotas- he has a ton of cars, all different makes and models.

I met him through a family friend, and he's done right by us and our friends half a dozen times. I'm happy to recommend my friends, because he's an honest guy, and I love giving him the business just as much as I love saving my friends $$$.

I don't know where you are located but Jack O'Toole at Middle Island Toyota was great. I bought my first car from him and my new one. He was not pushy at all which is why I ended up going back to him for my second. Just make sure that you do your homework first on kbb.com and edmunds.com. I did so I knew that all of the cost and pricing info that he told me was true.

Thanks for all the help. We actually are thinking about the Kia Sedona for a minivan and wish we could afford to get a trailblazer or tahoe right now but with just FH working I think a minivan pmt. will be easier.

I bought my prizm from Robert Chevrolet and they were excellent there. Their cars and vans are all certified and the salesman were very nice and courteous. I worked in several dealerships when I was younger and I know that I cannot stand car dealers, but they people at Robert Chevrolet were really nice. I think I dealt with a guy Named Eddie Kidar or ssomething. Robert Chevrolet is located in Hicksville.

Trust me when I say that ALL dealerships would deal with 'special financing'.

You are their best customer since you get them the highest interest rates.

Believe it or not they don't. I've gone to three on Sunrise Hwy. that don't.
