need advice please! walking down the aisle

Hi girls- so I have been struggling with this issue for some time now..

My mom was divorced twice. I don't speak to my biological dad and I speak to my stepdad bc he raised me since I was 5 but we never had that father/daughter relationship. I love him and everything but we arent close and now that they are divorced I see him like 2 or 3 times a year.

My grandfather (moms side) who passed away in July was always like a father to me. I always said on my wedding day he would be the one to walk me down the aisle. I lived with them for a portion of my childhood and then when my mom got remarried they moved in the basement of our house. So we were super close and my grandparents were like a second set of parents.
Unfortunately he can't walk me down the aisle b/c he passed away

SO! I was thinking maybe having my uncle (moms brother) who is like an older brother to me walk me down since he is my grandfather and my blood...

THEN I was thinking well maybe I should just have my mom walk me down the aisle since she is my life and my best friend in the entire world and we are extrememly close!

But is that weird having a mother walk down the aisle? I just want your girls opinion b/c i am struggling with this..

Thanks in advance for all your opinions..

I love the idea with just your mom, I think that would be really sweet.

No. . .your mom would be PERFECT since she's been your steadfast family member since, well, forever.

I think that given your circumstances it would be ok. My sister opted to have her mother walk her down and then my father took her at the front and handed her off, and it caused a big freaking drama, but it was totally a different situation. In yours though, since you have absolutely no relationship with your own father, i think it's ok.

I think it would be beautiful if your mom walked you down the aisle.. I've seen it done a few times and it's always a tear jerker...

I don't think it's strange at all. I am having my mom walk me down the aisle instead of my father. My parents are divorced and my mom is the one who raised me and is my best friend. I don't have the greatest relationship with my dad, so I switched the roles for the wedding. My dad will be lighting the unity candle with FH's mom and my mom will be walking me down the aisle.

My mom, who has been there for everything in my life, deserves that moment. And let me tell you, my mom is not a crier, but she cried when I asked her to walk me down the aisle and she is so excited about it!

How did you tell your dad he isn't walking you down the aisle or did you just not say anything??

Im not even sure if my stepdad thinks he would walk me down..I don't know what to say to him or if I should say anything at all

I never said he wasn't walking me down the aisle exactly. I just told him that he was going to be walking down the aisle with his wife and that he would be lighting the unity candle. Then I said, and 'mom is walking with me down the aisle.'

It wasn't the most pleasant conversation to anticipate, but it was over in like 5 seconds and once it was, I was fine.

my dad died when i was little, so i'm having my mom walk me down the aisle. i figure she raised me, so she should 'give me away.'

i think any of the possibilities you mentioned sound fine. you should go with whatever feels most natural and not worry about what other people think.

my dad passed away and ther is no other man who i feel could walk me down the aisle...soo my mom will be walking down the aisle, which she likes bc she gets to wear an extra fancy dress!

I think your mom would be amazing. It would probably mean the world to her. I don't think it matters one bit that it isn't a man. I don't think people will even think about that. Good luck!!!!

I t hink your mom giving you away would be a great honor to her. My aunt did that when she got married 20 years ago. then maybe you could dance with your uncle for your father-daughter dance.

If you do not feel close to your dad and you do not really have another male figure in your life then there is nothing wrong with your mother walking you down the aisle. More and more people are doing that now so it wouldnt be a big deal. Its your wedding and can do whatever you feel will make you happy.

Me too! I'd have my mom do it - but what about this - your mom and your uncle? Or your mom and a sibling?
