Need advice....sorry it's so long....

Need advice....sorry it's so long....

The only issues I seem to have while planning my wedding are coming from my father’s family that I’ve even cried 3 times already.
A lil background, my parents got divorced when I was in 4th grade and my father was not around most of my childhood. About 10 years ago he re-married and now I see him maybe 5-7 times a year, meanwhile he only lives 30 mins from me. The rest of his family, I have not seen since I was a little kid.

When planning, I did not initially have his family on the list b/c I don’t think of them as family since I NEVER see them. He wound up inviting 40 people, which he is paying for. Otherwise FI and I are paying for the whole thing. 1st he argued with me over his # of guests….when we booked the hall we booked the smaller room b/c I didn’t include that many people from his side, only about 15.

Then my shower was last weekend, which my sister threw for me. She only invited 6 people from his family which I thought was fine b/c I didn’t know any of them except his wife. Then toward the end of the shower, she got all made b/c I didn’t formally introduce his family to FI mother, grandmother, etc. But she has met them before and hello, she was there a half hour before I was and she could’ve made introduction. When I was taking pics with my immediate family, she got upset b/c she wasn’t in one. I do feel bad for this, but I didn’t do it intentionally. As you all know, during the shower or even E-parties you just going with the flow of things and not realizing what is going on. If she really wanted a pic, why didn’t she get up.

So now she is very disappointed and told me that it is ridiculous that his side of the family has not been included in the bridal shower or e-party (which was at FI sister house and only about 30 people…my father & wife were invited through. This was before I knew he wanted to invited all of his family).

And now she wants to know who on my fathers side of the wedding is not coming (with names) but she did not say why. Is this strange??

I am really not sure what to say to her as I don’t want to stir thing up any more before the wedding. Any advise on what I can say without causing any more drama???

Honestly - I would tell her that even though it's technically 'family', you don't know these people and you don't have an obligation to anyone.

Tell her you would rather not have to go around your wedding introducing yourself to these people! It's ridiculous and this is YOUR wedding, not her family circus.

I'm angry for you.

you should tell her to speak with your father about this because the decision has already been made. he has the 40 people that he is inviting and paying for so what more does she need? i wouldnt break down a list for her, she can go to her husband for that.

I know she has the list somewhere. I'm afraid if I tell her exactly who has responded no, that she might invite some one in thier place or something crazy like that since I had them cut thier list down. Otherwise why else would they care??

oh so sorry you have to deal with this. When your step mom learned about the shower she should have opened her mouth if there were people she wanted invited and also offered to pay for these people. I agree with you on pics - she wants a list, give her a list ...if they try to add, say there are no more invitations.
