I was asking last week if anyone new someone who did daycare in the RVC area - well now I'm thinking of doing it myself - I'm only looking to take care of two kids - my question is... should I just do it by word of mouth or place an ad? Would anyone here answer an ad in the paper for daycare? Just curious - Someone on my block just had a baby and she is going to take her to daycare - I am thinking of asking her is she would be interested in me - She is going to be paying $1200 a month - I would do it for $1,000 $50 a day... I'm not even positive I am going to do this but I am giving it some thought. I don't need benefits - and would be able to stay home with my babe (I love children and great with them) Please let me know what you think if you have an opinion. Thanks!!!!!

Re: Need advise on child care job...?
Im not a Mom so my opinion probably does not hold too much weight. I would be very comfortable with someone I know ( I mean more than a casual hello neighbor relationship) who lives nearby caring for my child. It would ease my mind plus it makes the logistics easy. The only draw back I would see is backup for vacations, sick days etc. I would need to have 'a second'.

Re: Need advise on child care job...?
Here are some things to consider: - Are you CPR certified? If not, you need to be. -How will your home owners cover you in case anything ever happened (ex:a child falls on your steps and breaks an arm) or do you need to get additional coverage? -Are you going to be NYS certified and inspected? -How will you handle days when you are ill or your child is ill? Or when a parent brings a sick child to your home? -Also, if you are not claiming the income (aka not a legal, tax paying business) then the parents cannot claim the childcare credit on their taxes. That happened to a good friend's SIL who did this out of her house. And many parents, after the first tax season, left her daycare because it hurt their taxes a lot. Just something to consider. -How will you plan on a summer vacation or holidays? What about if your child has a doctor's appt during the day? -Do you have enough equipment, such as cribs, education/child development toys? -What type of program do you want to run? Will they kids just watch videos all day or will you have planned activities? If so, have you read books on what activities are best for which age groups and what it teaches them? -What are your hours of operation? They typically need to be 7:30/8:00am-6:00pm. That is a very long day for any one person, let alone having 3 young children to care for. What if a parent has a late meeting, how much additional do you charge? -Will you provide daily or weekly written reports to the parents on their child's progress? -Will you provide meals? If so, how will you plan the menu? Will you want parents to provide the food/drinks for their own children? How will you children's food preferences?
So here are just a few things that I would want to know if it were my child going to someone's home daycare center. Maybe this will help you to figure out your business ideas.

Re: Need advise on child care job...?
i am not sure if i responded to your post last week, but if you are thinking about doing child care, you need to make sure yoiu are doing it legally. there are too many people providing child care with out the proper licenses and insurance.
i would go to the childcare council to find out the requirements.
