NEED EDIQUITE HELP

NEED EDIQUITE HELP

I am attending a destination wedding this weekend at the Ritz Carlton in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

This is one of my closest friends & she is in my BP. Note this is her second marriage as well.

Now the cost to attend this wedding was about $2600 a couple for 4 days.

My question is, what is the etiquette as far as a gift is concerned. I was thinking money of course

Any help would be appreciated

Thank you

I wouldn't expect a gift actually if I was her, she's asking her guests to spend $2600! But definitely have fun! Sorry I'm not too much help.....

I would give her whatever you can afford. There's not etiquette to this, just give whatever you feel is right, whether it's money or a gift.

I agree with the above poster: give what you can afford and no more.

One of my best friend's got married in CA a few years back (neither she nor her hubby were from there.) It cost me $2000 for the hotel & airfare alone and I was single at the time. I had no money left for a big gift. When all was said and done, she complained to me about people who didn't give gifts or gace gifts she thought were 'cheap.'

Bari.. you know what I told you.. but don't go crazy! You are spending a lot by going there and celebrating with them! U guys have a wedding to pay for yourselfs. Most people wouldn't spend that kind of money while they are planning their own wedding. You going there is just awesome itself!!!

If I had a destination wedding I wouldn't expect anyone who paid to be there to give a gift. If anything it would be nice to get a small sentimental gift rather than money but that's just MOH.

I believe etiquette says that you deduct your traveling expenses from your gift. I think it is tacky of someone to expect gifts, especially if you are hauling off to another country.

I also think it's tacky to expect gifts when people are paying that kind of money to travel!!

The hotel and airfare is the gift. Not to sound harsh.

After all of your expenses, I'm sure your friend won't actually expect a gift, but wouldn't it be appreciated so much more if you still gave one?

Give what you can afford. IMO, spending an extra $100 or so wouldn't hurt since you're already spending so much. I only say that because you mention that she's one of your closest friends.

I don't know what I would give - if I was giving $$.

I always give money, but in this situation, I'd be more inclined to buy them a gift - only because I wouldn't know what the proper amount to give would be (given all of your expenses)....

ETA: Then again, shes one of your closest friends....so maybe $200 (100 from each of you) would be sufficient...

I wouldn't give anymore than $200-that would be our top gift.

I don't know what I would give - if I was giving $$....

Ya, I agree. I'd just get her a gift for about $100 instead of giving cash... If you give cash... you should probably give a tid bit more than that.

Let us know how it works out! AND take lots of pics too!
