Need Everyone's Opinion about THURDSAY Weddings!!!!

My FH & I are paying for our own wedding and we are also trying to buy a house... With my line of work it doesn't matter what day I get married on, but it can't be during the summer. My question is: What do people really think about going to a wedding on a Thursday??? Do people get annoyed that they have to take off?? Will they think that you paid less and will give less in a gift?? Not stay all night because thay have to work the next day???? I was thinking Nov. 9. It is A Thursday, and the Friday is the 10th it is an observance Day for Veteran's Day.. So if people had off for Friday, then the Thursday could be like a Friday night, Right??? Please help!!! I need opinions... My mom just keeps giving me dirty looks!!!

I would not do it. Money being the issue, how about looking for the holidays instead. Columbus day, memorial day etc. Most all halls give brides a discount if the wedding date falls on a holiday, and an additional discount if it falls Mon-Friday. Secondly, how about a Sat or Sunday day wedding instead.
Again you would get a better respond and they are less expensive than the evening weddings. Hope this helps

I went to a Thursday wedding and a Tuesday wedding and I hated both of them. I think it is obnoxious, JMO. I like to save all my days off so I can go away on a vacation not get ready for a wedding.
My wedding is on a Sunday and that is much better than midweek. Taking off a Monday is so much easier than taking off midweek anyways.
But, if they love you they will come.

i thursday wedding means people will be coming straight from work, and have to go to work the next day... wouldnt recommend it...
instead try a saturday afternoon wedding... I know those cost alot less than saturday night ones

Well, I just wanted to thank all of you for your opinions... I have thought out many days, and I'm still looking.. Nothing is set in stone yet.. I have found that some places do quote higher prices on holiday weekends, I know this because the original date I wanted was/ is October 8th 2006, Colombus Day Weekend.. Some places want to charge what they charge for a Sat. Night...
But thanks for all of your insight, Thursday was/ is just another option....

I'll let you know what the outcome is....

Actually it's on a Saturday, but the Friday before is in Observance of...

Just to add my 2 cents.

I work in retail and in order for me to go to a Thursday wedding. I would probally have to use some of my vacation time to take off on Thursday and either use another day for Friday or work the closing shift.
It would be inconvient but I guess it would also depend on how close I am to the couple if it would be worth me doing it or not.

First of all, do what YOU and FH want! Second of all, GREAT idea on the Nov. 9th wedding! We are doing it July 3, next year which is a Sunday, and everyone has the next day off, so it's like a Saturday!
And if I was invited to a Thursday night wedding, I would be totally cool with it. Who am I to judge?

I think you will get a lot of No's.
That said those close to you will be there no matter what.
You just need to plan for how many NO's and don't promise a minimum unless you plan to pay for people that aren't there.

Our wedding is a Friday and we got some grief about that and alot of No's from OOT people, probably because they would have to take the day off. Some No's were even from family.

In the end you and FH have to do what will work in your budget.

why does everybody act like YOU'RE inconveniencing them? it's YOUR day and i've said this before... if they want to come, they will.

please, do what's best for you, it's the only way you'll be happy.

i went to a wedding several years ago, where i had to drive almost 3 hours to get to (out on long island) and had a blast.

the people who love you will find a way to make it work in THEIR schedule.

i think that if the money you will save is drastic then i say do it. some people srat partying on thursdays. i think that your friends and family will be there regardless of when yoiur wedding is although all of them might not make it to the wedding ceremony. i was married on a friday the ceremony was at 2:30 and i had like 20 people at my ceremony and the were the closest friends and relatives on both sides. i was givine flack at first for it being a friday night but people made arrangements and all came to have a good time. i think it will all work out ion the end

I know of people that are doing a Wednesday night wedding...the day before Thanksgiving!

That sounds like a great plan. If people don't come, think of the money you'll save!

I'd go for it, and if your mom isn't happy, tell her to open her wallet along with her mouth.

i attended a thursday wedding this summer that ended at 1am. everybody left at 11:30 and no one danced because they were soooooo tired from working that day.

When I wrote this, I wasn't expecting so much feedback, both openly & privately... I do want all of you to know that I thank you for your honest opinions... That is what I was looking for... And for your ideas & suggestions, I will take all into consideration... I do not work a 9-5 / Mon-Fri job, so sometimes I tend to forget what it was like to take off during the week and what it does entail.. But you all have helped me remember (just kidding!!! ) But thank you again, Honesty WAS what I was looking for here!!!

I would only do it if you knew a lot of people definitely had off the next day. You may get a lot of no responses.

GO FOR IT!!!

There will always be SOMEONE who has to work on the day of your wedding...be it Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Holiday, National Holiday, religious holiday, etc...

You will NEVER be able to find a day that is convenient for everyone!

So, if Thursday is the day that works for YOU, then go with it!

That's tricky. On one hand, if someone wants to be there, tehy will. While not everyone has off for Veteran's day.

I am having a Sunday wedding (Monday is Labor Day) and whoever doesn't like it...too bad! I caught so much grief about this. Complained about traffic....about getting home, about going away. I can't even begin to explain to anyone how much I really don't care anymore. If they want a more convenient day....they need to cut me a check. The best part is, after I stepped up and said, if you don't like it....don't come! I got a more positive feel from people!

People will complain about anything they can!
