Need Everyone's Opinion about THURDSAY Weddings!!!!
Original post by gina674
My FH & I are paying for our own wedding and we are also trying to buy a house... With my line of work it doesn't matter what day I get married on, but it can't be during the summer. My question is: What do people really think about going to a wedding on a Thursday??? Do people get annoyed that they have to take off?? Will they think that you paid less and will give less in a gift?? Not stay all night because thay have to work the next day???? I was thinking Nov. 9. It is A Thursday, and the Friday is the 10th it is an observance Day for Veteran's Day.. So if people had off for Friday, then the Thursday could be like a Friday night, Right??? Please help!!! I need opinions... My mom just keeps giving me dirty looks!!!
** I think, if they Love ya, they'll be there, I hope!!!!

I had mine on a Friday & I got a lot of No responses b/c of it. Which I have to say bothered me.....these people in particular will take off work to go to the outlets or to go to the spa, but not for my wedding.... it was a bit insulting.
Having said that...If you can have it on a Thursday when people may already have off the next day then it would work to everyone's advantage. DH gets the Friday before every weekend holiday off, so that would be a good time if your family has the same schedule...
We also paid for our wedding ourselves & had to chose a friday if we wanted the CH and the time that we had it. I chose the Hrbor Club b/c they have some of the best views of the Sunset & their food & service were the best...but I could not afford a sunset wedding on Sunday or the night time one on Saturday, so Friday it was & it was better than I ever imagined.
Good Luck

We're thinking about a 3pm reception on a Sunday. I know a few people will complain. If they want to complain, then they don't have to come. You do what's best for you and FH.

Re: Need Everyone's Opinion about THURDSAY Weddings!!!!
Ok, here's my opinion... We decided to have our wedding on a Thursday night because of quite a few reasons. I think choosing the day of your wedding involves many circumstances unique to every couple. ALL of my family is on the west coast...Washington, Oregon and California. I have NO ONE out here. Soo, we felt that if they are going to spend the money to come to our wedding, at least give them time after the wedding to do the tourist thing and have it as a vacation! And, I agree with what other people have said, too about if they love you, they'll come! It's not like it's a monday wedding!! The other issue is that we're paying for this along with some help and we want to have the wedding that will allow us to have no regrets. So, do want you want to do and the rest will fall into place! Good luck! Hillary

why does everybody act like YOU'RE inconveniencing them? it's YOUR day and i've said this before... if they want to come, they will.
please, do what's best for you, it's the only way you'll be happy.
i went to a wedding several years ago, where i had to drive almost 3 hours to get to (out on long island) and had a blast.
the people who love you will find a way to make it work in THEIR schedule.
good luck!
I agree 100%!!! If they love you, they'll be there... and if this is what's financially most comfortable for you GO FOR IT!!! It is YOUR day and honestly -- screw them if it is too 'inconvenient' for them to come and share in one of the most important and beautiful days of your entire life just because it's a THURSDAY.
Now, that said, let me explain where I'm coming from because all these opinions you are getting have to be taken in perspective. It's a lot different to hear someone who got married at a $300 a plate place say NO DON'T DO A THURSDAY than to hear someone who doesn't have that much money say it. I wanted to have our wedding on a weeknight to save money and have it at a nicer place. FH was totally unwilling to budge on the Sat night thing. Also, I get more than 4 weeks vacation time a year so I wouldn't mind taking a day to go to a wedding. I am also very budget conscious and the costs of weddings on LI outrage me so anything to beat that, I am all for it.
You have to decide what is right for the two of YOU. Good luck -- it's a tough decision, I know.

Maybe ask some of your family how they feel....you do not want to plan a beautiful wedding and no one attends so i would see how they feel

I am going to a Thursday wedding next summer. They thought they might get some deals but they are not getting any. The band, florist, etc are still the same amount of money. I have to miss 2 days for the wedding so I am a little pissed off!! At least if it was Sunday most people just have to take off 1 day maybe. JMO!!

I think you're being pretty accomodating by picking a Thursday that is before a holiday many people will have off from work on. You'd think your family and friends would be accomodating by understanding your situation and planning accordingly. Are you looking at 2006? I'd think that would be plenty of notice for people who don't have a lot of vacation days...
We are planning for July 2, 2006 which is the Sunday before July 4. We're hoping people will have off from work on Monday and if not, won't mind taking off and having a 4 day weekend.
Good luck with your decision!

Go for a Sunday Afternoon wedding instead. It will probably be close in price to Thursday Evening.
You will also be catering to the older crowd more with a Sunday Afternoon as they would probably stay for the entire ceremony as compared to possibly leaving early on a weekday evening.
I am doing Sunday Afternoon.

i agree - for me, thursdays are just way too inconvenient... if you were not immediate family or a best friend, i would not make the trip if it were over an hour away...

IMO I wouldn't do it. You'll probably get a lot of NO's for a response. People will probably have to take Thursday off or a 1/2 day if your ceremony is at 3pm. They might not want to take the Friday off as well. It's a tough one. You have to do what makes you happy but you might not have a lot of people coming to the ceremony and people might leave early from the reception.
I agree

Re: Need Everyone's Opinion about THURDSAY Weddings!!!!
For a close friend or relative, any time or day is fine.
For anyone else:
If the wedding ceremony and reception were near me, or within an hour's commute, and began after 6PM, then I wouldn't mind at all.
Otherwise, I'd go but probably leave early (I do not have off for Veteran's Day).
