We're going to Maui too..

Found these two great sites: http://www.hawaiiactivityworld.com/ http://www.anythingmaui.com/ There are so many cool things like walking underwater snorkeling (you wear helmets and can actually talk underwater!! You don't even have to know how to swim.).. there is an actual submarine that you can go on (along with glass bottom boats). So many people have said to do the morning trip to the volcano.. you have to get up super early but it is supposed to be worth it. There are different luaus for you to go to (there is one that combines the submarine excursion with the luau after.. i think it is the Royal Lahaina Luau.). There is the Maui Aquatic Center that has a walk through tunnel under the water while the fish swim around you. Of course there are helicopter rides. Snorkeling excursions like Molokini and Turtle Island are supposed to be amazing. Oh, if you are going i think from December to March you can see the whales too. There is an unbelievable amount of things to do. There are a lot of magazines and books on Hawaii and Maui. Why not start there? You can also buy an island hopping pass that lets you fly to the different islands.

I happened to be looking into...

...finding out about something for a friend who is going to Hawaii on his honeymoon. Someone posted here a long while ago (when I was planning) about a biking trip you can do in Maui. You get picked up really, really early by a van and are driven up a dormant volcano and then you bike down while the sun is rising and have breakfast at the bottom. Supposedly not strenuous because it`s all downhill and you are sometimes hardly pedaling. Supposed to be awesome. One website is www.mauidownhill.com but if do a search on Yahoo, there are other sites to check out too. Have fun!

My Fiance and I went to Maui last year. We basically saw every bit of the island and did all the touristy things. But the absolute highlight of my trip was a hike that we did up the Pipiwai Trail. It is not a difficult hike - although it is about 2 miles to the top - but absolutely the most beautiful views I have ever seen. We read about it in a book called Maui Revealed. Along the hike you can swim in an Infinity Pool which sits atop a 200 ft waterfall - you can actually look right over the top of it! There is a Bamboo forest and then you get to the bottom of a Lava canyon and you look up and see the most unbelievable waterfall. Directly below the Pipiwai trail are the 7 Sacred Pools which are a series of waterfalls. You can swim in the pools at the bottom of the falls. We basically spent the day doing the above. If you are staying over on West Maui - where most of the hotels are, it is a long drive to the trail. It is almost at the end of the Hana Highway. But it is well worth it!

Maui Must Do!

You have to wake up at like 2 am, but its worth it - take the Sunrise Tour to the top of Haleakula the volcano. Make sure you dress really really warm - it's freezing up there. But believe me the sun rising above the volcano crater is just amazing, the air is so thin and fresh and it is such a moving thing to see! Very romantic. We went on a tour where they drove us up to the top, we watched the sun rise then we rode bikes down the volcano - the most exhilarating thing I have EVER done! You see all kinds of amazing scenery and end up back at your hotel by noon. You're exhausted but it's SOOO worth it! Also the helicopter tour of the island was fabulous - we saw 1200 foot waterfalls that you can't see by foot. Amazing!

I've been to to maui 2x and to kaui also (long)

I just got back from maui one month ago. That is where we got engaged! A MUST do on maui... The downhill bike ride from haleakala(sp) at sunrise. I almost didn't go because of the unGodly hour you are picked up at the hotel. I am so glad I went! Anyone can do it, it is not hard at all. If you do it you must go at sunrise, it is so romantic and fun too. We went with Maui Downhill tours, They made me so comfortable.(I was a bit nervous at first) If you can afford it take a helecopter ride it was breathtaking! Rest. not to miss.. David pauls lahina grill and Roys grill, Both outstanding! Have a great time!

debbus where did you stay in Maui??? *NM*

The first time we stayed at the mariott, the second time at the kapalua bay hotel, part of the Itt luxury collection.( awsome! thats were we got engaged ) Don't bother with the Ritz I heard it wasn't worth it. When we got there we looked at the Plantation inn (Gerards fine french rest. part of property) I might stay there next time, They are in lahina. VERY romantic but very small. Nice if you like a smaller more intimate place.
