My dress is ivory-ish...they call it ivory over oyster...its a different color...but i was thinking of putting the boys in gray suits...lighter gray, not charcoal.....will this go?

Can I see a picture of it?
Grays are neutral, so it's probably fine. That said, I think a medium to charcoal gray tends to work better with most complexions. A light gray can wash a person out.
For example I think this:
tends to look better on most people than this:
Your bigger decision might be the ties, assuming that the guys will be in white shirts.

Really good question.
This gets lost on here because everyone is all matchy-matchy this and x person needs to stand out.
The truth is, if you put the GMs in true tuxedos, not every element of the tuxedo needs to match. As someone who owns a damn nice tuxedo, I would love to be in a wedding party where the groom allowed me to wear my own.
For my wedding everyone wore one-button, peak lapel jackets with low cut vests and black self-tie bow ties. Even the FOB and FOG wore the same thing. We looked great and got tons of compliments.

Oh also, I would say 2 months ahead of time is perfect for rentals.
If you allow some guys to wear their own, have them go to a tailor about a 2-4 weeks beforehand to ensure a great fit.

Re: NEED HELP BLACK TIE GUY *UPDATED w/ PIC*
I think the medium gray I posted would go better.
Also, good job on going with the suits for a 3pm wedding.
Good luck, and feel free to let me know if you have any other questions.

For some reason I think it'd look better if he wears dark gray with ivory tie. Here r some pics so we can kinda see how it could look

Gray is awesome. You could do an ecru shirt if you wanted, but I dont think it matters too much.

I would love to find out more about you blacktieguy. You advice is so good sometimes I just wonder about you. What do you do for a living? Are you in the fashion industry? How do you know so much about the proper etiquette about dressing?

Haha, nahh, not in the fashion industry. I'm a lawyer who got married earlier in the year and just take a liking to dressing well.
