Need help- can't decide who should walk me down the aisle
I have a strong relationship with both of my parents and am having a hard time deciding if I want them both to walk me down the aisle or just my dad.
BOTH PARENTS: It would be like they were supporting me as I take this next step into married life.
MY DAD ONLY: My mom and I have shared a lot of the planning, dress shopping, etc. . . leading up to the wedding. I am a little of a traditionalist, and I think it would be nice to share this moment with my dad as something special we would do.
Who walked you down the aisle (or will be)? and why?
TIA
**My parents think that this is my decision and will not be hurt either way.

my dad only walked me down. I may have had my mom as well but that was the one thing that my dad asked - hes traditional in that way.

I am having both parents.. but this is typical in a jewish wedding. I really like the idea of it anyway. It symbolizes that you are leaving their home and entering a new one-- and they support you every step of the way-- or something like that-- I can look up the symbolism if you were interested- I have a book at home.

I knew that is done in a Jewish wedding, but I wasn't certain of the reason for it. I would be interested in the symbolism.

Ok-- I'll FM you later.. It is actually really nice- I just don't remember all the details- and it is not religious at all- just more family focused.

My mom would be so hurt if I didn't let her walk me down the isle too. I am a traditionalist too but I think that its really sweet. I'm 34 so no one is 'giving me' away anyhow.

I'm Jewish so both parents will walk me, but I think I if I were Catholic I would still want them both to have that honor. I'm not just my dad's child, I'm both of theirs. My mom has worked hard and done a lot of running around with me for the wedding and she deserves to be special that day too.

I had both parents walk me down the aisle; it just felt right to me. I think you should go with you comfortable and happy.

Maybe have both parents walk you down the aisle, stop at your moms seat and have your dad walk you up to the alter.

I gave my parents the option. My mom wanted my dad to do it alone so she could watch us from the front and see my DH's reaction.

I had this exact same dilemma. I decided that just my dad would walk me down the aisle. I don't have very many memories of the two of us doing anything together, so this is something I'm actually looking forward to. I'm much closer with my mom so this was a hard decision for me. In the end, my mom told me that she was actually looking forward to watching me and my dad walk down the aisle. She wouldn't see it obviously if she was walking with us.

My father only, that and our dance was his only 'time' in the wedding. My mom was involved in everything - shopping, planning, the shower...

When I suggested having both of them walk me down, they looked at me like I was an alien with 5 heads. My father then told me to 'stop being ridiculous.'
Tradition dies hard.
Thinking about it though, I love the idea of sharing that moment with my Dad. And I love the idea of seeing my mothers face as we walk down the aisle together.

I gave the option to my parents and my mother insisted that my father walk me down the aisle.

definately BOTH.....if my daddy was still alive, I would have both my parents walk me down the isle. I think they would be honored.

I had both my parents walk me down the aisle. I guess I figured that they both were wonderful parents and I have shared so much with them why make this moment exclusive to my father.

In your case, and this is just my opinion, I would have both. YOu dont want to regret later. Screw tradition - you are very close to both. Heck, I wish I could do the same but I am lucky enough to have them both in the same room that day!

I am VERY VERY close w/ my mom. - But IMO, if you're close w/ your dad, I think it's 'HIS' job - Your mom gets to do all of the 'girly' stuff w/ you - dresses, hair, plans etc etc. - I felt like having both of them walk me down was taking something away from my dad.

Re: Need help- can't decide who should walk me down the aisle
I originally planned to have both parents walk me down...but my mother requested that only my father walk me down because in her eyes, it was 'his job' and she didn't want to intrude in that area. so i agreed and it was a really special moment. we also had both of my brothers walk my mother down the aisle during the procession, so it made her special as well.
