Ok, w/o getting into too many specifics, my dad is really not part of my life and this brings an issue as far as invitations....
My question is this:
How do I word them? I don't want to give him any credit b/c he doesn't deserve any (I know that sounds harsh, but is just the way it is)
Can I say:
My name and FH's Name
Along with their families? Along with their parents?
I AM SO CONFUSED!
*Note also that FH and I are paying for the entire thing......

Re: NEED HELP...re: Invitations
Sage, what you provided as an example works, with you and FH inviting. We did the same thing, b/c we're paying for the wedding.

Re: NEED HELP...re: Invitations
Well, if you and FH are paying for the whole thing, you don't have to mention parents at all. But if you want to, you could say either:
Together with their parents or Together with their families John Doe and Jane Smith request the honour... etc.
Hope this helps.

Re: NEED HELP...re: Invitations
I am in the same exact boat as you
This is what we put - I didnt want to just start it off w/ our names so I put families (his mother is contributing some $$ so I had to acknowledge that)
Together with their families
Bride and Groom
Request the honour of your presence at their marriage
blah blah blah...

Either way, I think they both sound really nice.

Re: NEED HELP...re: Invitations
You can say together with their parents/ along w/ parents or you could leave the parents off entirely, which is what I'm tempted to do...

Re: NEED HELP...re: Invitations
That's what I thought - just wanted to make sure.... Thanks Guys~
Edited to say: the only reason I didn't want to use 'along with their parents' is that that kind of gives the impression that I am including him and I would rather not.....
Would you say so?

Re: NEED HELP...re: Invitations
Exclude them entirely...our parents were not mentioned on our invitation since We were issuing hte invite, not our parents.

Re: NEED HELP...re: Invitations
I would put together with their parents....We are paying for our whole wedding ourselves but I wanted to include my parents so it's up to you

Re: NEED HELP...re: Invitations
Hey...I have a related, but slightly different, dilemma. FH and I are paying for close to 1/2 of the wedding cost, and my parents are paying close to 1/2 (they are covering all reception costs, we are covering everything else, except for the rehearsal dinner, which FILs are paying for). So we want to include everyone's names. At first we thought it would be best to say something like:
My Name and FH Name together with their parents Mr. & Mrs. Names of my parents Mr. & Mrs. Names of his parents Invite you to share in the joy... (etc, etc)
Now, I know how traditional my dad is and I am thinking it might start world war 3 if I don't do the standard
Mr. & Mrs. My Parents request the honor (blah blah) of My Name and FH Name son of Mr. & Mrs. His Parents
FH and I really like Option #1 more, but don't think it is worth the battle. Thing is, I have NO CLUE how to broach this subject with my parents. I don't want it to appear as if I am asking their permission, because we are not, particularly since we are paying for 1/2 of this thing ourselves. On the other hand, there is always the (small) chance that my folks won't react as badly as I fear to option #1 and, if I don't ask somehow, I might end up picking a wording option (#2) that I don't really like, to prevent a war that never would have happened anyway.
What do you all think? I'm really stuck on this one.
