Need hugs

FH and I signed a contract on a new construction and gave a deposit almost a year ago on a home. Well the house isn't done yet, but we visit periodically to see the progress and we already bought some furniture so we would have something to sit on when we move in.

Well the construction is WAY behind schedule - and FH stops by today and sees a 'For Sale' sign in the front yard. UM - how can it be 'For Sale' when we already bought it? SO FH calls the real estate agent and they are asking $165K more than we were going to pay for it. So pretty much the builder is trying to be shady and sell it out from under us for a huge profit - even though he cashed our check and we have a contract. UGH I hate lawyers and this crap and now we have to get into it. And the builder is my FILs neighbor - what an arse.

yeah - it may come to this. I hate the idea of suing, but I am not gonna let him get away with selling OUR house for a sweet profit. Can anyone just be honest nowadays?

Seriously, I hope that it doesn't come down to this, but if you must, sue the pants off of this azzhole!

I am not sure he can legally do that since you signed a contract. Please read your contract carefully so you know how to proceed next.

Examine your contract and contact a lawyer! What he's doing is illegal!

UPDATE:

OK so clearly he is doing something illegal. We contacted our lawyer, who is gonna put a lien on the house - which pretty much means we don't get it right away, but he can't sell it. He said it takes a LONG time to resolve these things - so FH and I are gonna look for a new house since the wedding is around the bend. Of course we bought a couch for the den, so hopefuly our new house can fit the couch

The house is yours correct? You shouldn't need to look for another house.
