Need ideas

Need ideas

I am gettting way ahead of myself with crafts etc., but here's one I am thinking of. What do you think?

My neighbor was throwing out a small 6 - 8 (I can't remember) drawer set its probably 2ft wide , 1 ft high, and maybe 6 inches deep). I'm pretty sure its from Ikea (unfinished wood, etc.)

Its in great condition, and was never finished. I am thinking of finishing it in a stain, or painting it and stencilling it for the ladies bathroom supplies, instead of a basket.

What do you think of the idea?
Any inspirations for decorating it?

Thanks

I am truly so jealous that you have the time to be crafty like that!

Good luck on your idea - and have fun

Re: Need ideas

My friend paints wooden furniture just like that...she has done some pretty cool stuff to suit whatever rooms they are destined for. Sorry, no pictures but my favorite is this stool she did with big leaves and ladybugs to suite a garden room.

My cousin did their baby's room just like that - a tree, animals and bugs, its really beautiful

Re: Need ideas

Hey can anyone give me ideas?

I thought of staining it, polyurethaning it and using clear labels to write in sloop script the contents of the drawers -
sewing emergency
stain emergency
femine hygiene emergency
hair emergency
nail emergency
and on and on

or painting it and stencling calla lillies (which are turning into our theme)

Is it too much though ???? Is the whole idea a little OTT? Please be honest.
Thanks

How creative. It sounds great.

Re: Need ideas

I don't think it is OTT at all.

IF you have read my past posts I think I am Martha Stewart. I would use stencils and do flowers or ivy vines. You couls als do decopage (sp) (I said I was Martha Stewart...not the Spelling Bee Champ of the world!)

Re: Need ideas

I keep meaning to buy a glue gun, but I might get too ambitious

So now I think - stain, stecil with ivy all over, and use clear address labels to list the emergency

Here's a potential list

Hair emergency - comb, clips, elastic band, hairspray
Femine emergency - the obvious
sewing emergency -sewing kit, safety pins
tummy&head emergency - advil, benadryll, rolaids, & pepto
Nail emergency - clear polish, nail file
Misc emergency - bandaids, moleskin, shout, toothpics
mint emergency - obvious

I hope there are 7 drawers - I'll check tonight

LIW to the rescue AGAIN

edited for sp.

Re: Need ideas

I think the ivy would look really good on a white washed background. Like paint it white and then rub off some with a a slightly wet brush. The green ivy would stand out really nice on that.

Re: Need ideas

You're right - white might be nicer in the bathroom

Re: Need ideas

I think this idea is adorable! But, here's another thought re: the labels. I think it's a shame to stick labels (even if they are clear) to the piece after you're going to put so much time/love into painting it.

Why not take some pretty notetags, write the contents of each individual drawer and then punch a hole in the corner of each card, thread some pretty white organza ribbon through the hole, and tie the cards to the handle of each drawer.
It's just a thought...it came to me while I was reading how you plan to paint this!

Re: Need ideas

Great idea Claud, but there are no handles on the drawers - there is a 'U' shape cut out of the top of each drawer. I thought of adding handles, but I am afraid the wood will split

Thanks again
