Need Opinions - Entertainment

Hi everyone!

I just wanted some opinions on what to do for entertainment. FH's parents are traditional (Chinese and Christian) and didn't want a DJ because they don't want any inappropriate dancing. When FH's sister got married she didn't have a DJ and it was extremely boring. Everyone was just at their tables eating dinner with NO entertainment!

I do want to be respectful of his parents but at the same time we need a DJ/MC to do intros and to play our first dance & parent dance music. So I was thinking about hiring a DJ and requesting to play lighter/background music instead of dance music but during the 4 hours it is going to be so boring. I am going to have a Photo Booth and I was thinking about the idea of putting out games (board games, card games) but I'm not sure if this will work out. In my mind I picture most of the guests chatting most of the time during the reception while those who enjoy playing games will be entertained with games. Any opinions/thoughts?

What about older music and/or nothing too clubby? I think anything from parent's generation would be fun or even modern music like Imagine dragons 'On top of the world.' I think a DJ is the way to go, just specify your requests to keep it appropriate and comfortable for everyone.

I think that requesting only appropriate songs be played is a better idea than board games honestly. I would be a little confused to be at a wedding with board games; it makes the whole event seem extremely casual. If music was really an issue for your FIL, why don't you look into other types of entertainment such as a steel drum band.

You can definitely request the DJ play more appropriate music. They can play ambient music or music with no lyrics. You just need to be adamant with your DJ.

I agree with everyone else. The right DJ will listen to your request and play music as a kind of background for the night. The ones Ive met with have been very clear that any requests - what has to be played, or what is avoided, is completely up to us and it's their job to make sure that is met.

I think not having anything would be a bit strange/silent. Maybe save yourself some money and just get a one man DJ/MC combo, that way you're not paying for an MC to basically do nothing all night.

You may want to give Bob Loggia with top hat entertainment a call. He has a VERY reasonable price and will listen to what you need as far as an unobtrusive entertainment option! Good luck!
