Transport the soup in the pot, or in take out containers...transport it cold, and they can heat it up there.

Yeah, you would need special kosher for passover margarine. Basically, everything we buy for passover is certified Kosher for Passover...it's a pain!

I'm excited though..apparently there's this huge kosher supermarket in lawrence. At this point, it's selling all passover stuff, so we're going shopping there next week!

OH wow! That's not that far from me. Let me know how you like it. That would make it SO easy to shop.

I have to look it up on this links...hummous= not ok? cause it's chic peas? so confusing!!

mmm..matzah pizza..one of the few things i look forward to on passover. That and matzah brei!

That's really interesting about the meat/dairy at the same table - I never heard that, but Im definitely going to look into it more.

I know the cake stuff is confusing..it confuses me too..it's b/c the cake is made with matzo meal and not regular flour.

They actually make kosher for passover pasta and cereals now, but I don't eat them..they seem so weird to me!

Maybe you or someone else can make a matzo stuffing. I don't have a recipe here, but that should be easy to find, and it should be vegetarian. DH's aunt also makes a ratotouille (sp?) that's really yummy, and usually has a lot of potato dishes..mashed potatos, roasted potatos, etc..

I'm off to bed - have a good night!

I know, it's so confusing...even when you grow up with it!

Brach's kosher supermarket is 11 Lawrence Ave. I'll let you know how it is when i go next week. Night!

Glad I could help. The more I read the rules, the more I realize how much I don't know about Kashrut. It is so much easier when you are born and raised in a kosher home. I remember a kosher friend of mine actually 'selling' a room in her home to a non Jew so during the holiday she was not permitted to enter because it didn't belong to her. She also didn't have to clean it. The cleaning process starts so early. Some people just leave their homes for the entire holiday because the undertaking is too overwhelming for them. I would have to do that. Take my sheytl and run.

Jax, there is a Brach's on Main Street in Kew Gardens Hills. I used to live in KG hills for 6 years. It is very close to you.

Passover is not easy on vegetarians!

You are right about that, but imagine if you were on Atkins? A person could drop half their body weight in a week!!!

I am so not looking forward to cleaning for Passover. However, we're going to the inlaws are might spend maybe 1-2 days of the holiday at our home. In between (Chol Ha-Moed) we're going to Balitmore for DH's grandmother's unveiling.

Oh, I know Brach's very well. We shop there regularly! It's just that according to my childhood rabbi, who married us, the one in Lawrence is HUGE and so much cleaner and nicer. I've been wanting to check it out, and Pesach is the perfect time.

Re: Need passover help...as usual

Pesach is making me crazy- this is the first year where we have a home- not a dorm room or parent's house- and the cleaning, cooking, buying and kashering is making me crazy. We are off today to buy some passover stuff, and then it's back to cleaning. I would love to just sell the whole apartment and come back when passover is over, but thats not an option for us.

it's really a huge undertaking. I don't know how much for it doug's aunt does (the seder is at her house), so I have to check..if they're really strict about the pots and pans (which I REALLY doubt) I really can't make anything uness it's in disposable pans..but I don't think they're sthat strict..thanks for bringing all of this up

You might also want to check if they care if the oven or stove is kosher for passover.
As well as any spoons, mixing cups, knives, cutting board are kosher as well.
It really depends on how strict they are.

I was going to say that too. I have an orthodox student in my class and I can't give him most things that we make in class evenif the pans and utensils are kosher, the ovens are not. His family is Cholov Yisroel at home but since he is in a secular school (special ed day treatment), all they ask is that things are OUD or pareve. I'll be honest with you, if I wasnt Jewish myself, I'd probably not think much of it, but I have to accomodate for him.

I asked. FH said they don't reall care about the pots and pans and stove, and they don't even go through the whole cleaning ritual in thier house..they just throw out the bread the day before. I'm going to double check with his mom at least though.

thanks so much for all of the help..I would never have known ANY of this..

Yeah..I worked at a jewish camp one summer in HS and I don't know if there was any real restriction about what I broguth for myself (I don't really remember) but I rememeber anything I brought for the kids had to be kosher, so that's when I really started checking labels..and then we had to watch what the kdis gave each other, because osme kids weren't jewish and the ones who were were all diffferent levels of observance.
