Need RH advice - down to last 2!

Original post by aimes1866

Hello!

After a full weekend of visiting RHs (11 of them! never knew how tired I'd be)...my fiance and I have narrowed down to two places. :)

I'd really appreciate it if any of you who have been to weddings to these places or have been married then to FM me with your thoughts on food, service, likes, dislikes. :) We're really torn on it right now and can't decide.

The two places are:

Woodbury Country Club
and
Crest Hollow Country Club

We knew there were chances of woodbury closing down later but they assured us it won't happen any earlier than mid-2010..

One of the concerns we had abuot crest hollow was that they wouldn't guarantee us the exact cocktail hour space (did any of you encounter that?) Other than that, the rooms and grounds were gorgeous.

Both places have 2-3 events at the same time - if any of you were there, can you also speak to if you felt like you ran into other bridal parties, etc?

Thanks so much!!!! Really appreciate it!! :)

We're sooo excited we may have a place soon! :)

My FBIL got married there in October. I've been to many events there but over 10 years ago until last year and would have to say everything was great. I didn't see another bride, just the other guests.
Good luck and best wishes!

It's been a wile since I've been, but both places do very very nice weddings-the layouts are such that if there were more than 1 wedding going on, you wouldn't run into other weddings happening.
The grounds on both RH's are beautiful.
I remember the food at both places was good also.
I haven't been to a wedding at either place in a few years, but I think either one you choose will make your day special.

Good luck and congratulations, date twin!!

crest hollow is a wedding mill. I've been there 2x's for weddings and for the prom last year. Food is horrible and very low end.

We had our end of year party at Woodbury and it is very nicely done and much more elegant.

Hands down Woodbury CC.

Did you also check out Fox Hollow..along the same lines but they give you a little more for your money.

I think this was a very insensitive review. You could have nicely stated that CHCH isnt your style, but to call it low end is very subjective. I'm sure there are people that would think your RH is low end. I dont mean to start drama, but you should think twice before bashing a RH that a ton of girls are in love with.

I totally agree. There were a lot of RH's I went to that are very popular on here that I thought were horrendous and tacky but I would never, ever, ever say that to anyone because everyone has different tastes.

I don't think anybody gets offended by bad reviews because everyone is entitled to their own experience and opinion. There are just lady-like ways to state them. People ARE offended by rude and obnoxious reviews.

I'm an old married lady now and don't post anymore, but had to comment on this one.
I was a CHCC and I would also get upset to read some of the negative opinions on my hall of choice. Yes, it's not everyone's cup of tea, but please use a little tact before you post. I actually never considered booking there, but my DH wanted to take a look. We left feeling like how could we not book there? The price was right, the grounds were spectacular, and I've always heard great things about the food.
CHCC brides you have NOTHING to worry about. My day was amazing. The staff bent over backwards to make it perfect and custom-tailored everything to fit my style. I wanted things done a little differently than they typically do things, and they complied with all my instructions. My room looked amazing. In fact, my photographer submitted my wedding to the Knot and it was chosen for the magazine. Clearly, they didn't think it was tacky. My guests raved about the food and cocktail hour. And I never saw another bride. And if I did, who cares? I knew there would be other weddings going on when I booked.

What makes a wedding special goes far beyond your reception hall. It's in the love between the bride and groom, it's in the friends and family you invite, it's in the music you play. I've been to super-fancy, 'high-end' weddings and had a boring time and I've been to modest, low-key wedding or weddings with as many as 6 events going on at once, and had the best time ever--and vice versa. Price and number of rooms does not dictate the experience.
Yes, this bride-to-be asked for your opinions. But she also stated that CHCC was one of the places she liked. There are more constructive ways to help her make her choice.

very true....and touching....never been to either but its not the place that makes the wedding its the love between the couple. A friend of mine had her reception at a nursing home event room and it was absolutely beautiful and she put it together in 5 weeks

I have been to Cresthollow for 2 weddings recently and left hungry both times because the food was so bad from cocktaIl hour to dinner to the worst cake I've ever had. I have also heard some very good reviews though. FH went to both wedding with me and agreed that the food was terrible but also told me that he has been to some events at cresthollow were the foos was quite good. We decided that they must sell different packages ranging fro low end food to very good food and it just depends on what the bride and groom pick and want to spend. I would not go to Woodbury either even though I have heard nothing but really good things about it because in this eonomic climate, places are closing every day and you would never want something as major as your wedding venue going out of business to happen to you. I say look elsewhere.

Wow....I've never heard such bad things about Crest Hollow!!! I've always heard the food was great...

I'm having my cocktail hour outside, if it rains we get moved inside...I liked all the rooms so if we have to move it won't make a difference where we end up...

Not sure about being low end and a wedding mill issues....

ETA: This post made me kinda sad...I know everyone is entitled to their opinions but please remember that there are nicer ways to state what you think. There are lots of people who booked their weddings at Crest Hollow on this site, please be mindful of that.
