Need some opinions from my Jewish ladies out there
So I am Christian and my FH is Jewish we are having our ceremony in a non-denominational location (but not RH) and are being married by my pastor and a cantor. As retarded as it is neither of us wants to see the other before the ceremony meaning we cannot sign a ketubah prior to being married. The Cantor said that we would sign it during the ceremony (has anyone ever see this?) I already know that we will not be displaying the ketubah in our house after the wedding (FH doesn't care) is there really a point to signing it then? help i'm so confused
and where do I even find one if we do decide to sign one?

you have to sign it because in Jewish tradition, it's like a marriage license ...
i have seen the ketubah signed at the ceremony once before and thought nothing of it.
if you don't plan on displaying it, you can probably get a very cheap one (for like $20) without any decoration. The 'pretty' ones can cost $200 and up. Honestly, i have no idea where you would find a non-decorated one - your Rabbi / cantor may be able to help

ok well as long as I wouldn't be the only one who has done this before then I guess we can sign it during the ceremony.
The decorative ones are beautiful however I hate to spend over $200 on something that is going to sit in a closet for the rest of our lives... maybe FMIL will buy it lol

I have definitely heard of signing it during the ceremony. I would still do it because it means your marriage is legal under Jewish law and its a nice way to honor tradition IMO. Ketubah.com had non-decorated ones I believe- also our rabbi said he would give us a plain one for free so maybe see if the Cantor knows anything about this??

We are going to sign ours directly after the ceremony, but I have heard of it being done during the ceremony as well.
If it doesn't matter to either of you, you really don't need a ketubah. You could also just copy the text from online and print it out yourself.
I would recommend getting a simple one. You may change your mind later in life and decide it's important.

My cousin did hers at the ceremony--her husband was also not jewish.
I know the more decorative ones are expensive but you can find simpler ones for $60-$100. I saw a few at a Judaica store in Manhattan (J Levine Co)--they are fine, especially if you don't plan to display.
As long as your ketubah signers are okay doing it during ceremony, I say you should.

hey I'm catholic and my fh is jewish too! we are signing it before but I'm pretty sure our rabbi/priest said you could do this during the ceremony.
Also you mentioned its not going up in your house.. i know there is always conflicts with putting things up that are one religion vs the other.. but we got a BEAUTIFUL interfaith ketubah! its 2 tree's intertwining and its written in all english we picked a really beautifulsaying to put on it.. and our Rabbi and Priest are both gonna sign it.. seriously its like a piece of art signed by both of you you should think about it!

Hi! I'm in a pretty similar situation (I'm Christian, he's Jewish). We did end up getting an interfaith ketubah from modernketubah.com. They have a couple of really beautiful interfaith wordings that you can choose from, or you can make up your own I think. As was mentioned above, it can be a really beautiful piece of art (this website mostly has nature backgrounds, like flowers or leaves). The website is a bit pricey ( I believe we got the standard size and it was about 300 without a frame), but I would suggest at least checking it out since the interfaith wordings may be helpful. I also really liked that the backgrounds were so different from other ones that I have seen. Maybe your future in laws will be so happy that you are incorporating their faith into the ceremony that they'll pay for it!
