Need some opinions...is it worth it?

Original post by futurestevens

Sorry it's so long! But if you make it to the end lol

Ok, so I'm having a little bit of an internal struggle right now. I've been trying to find an indoor spot for pictures in case the weather isn't holding up the day of the wedding...I was looking at vineyards in the area that were a) close to The Vineyards, b) had a cellar room with tons of wine barrels, and c) didn't cost an arm and a leg. The only place I loved was Raphael and it's a good 20 minutes away, and they charge $250 an hour!

In my search, I came across an Inn in Jamesport that I am currently OBSESSED with. They have a 3 level suite which I could stay in the night before the wedding and then have my girls get ready in...as well as take some really cool pictures, I think. There are a ton of indoor photo ops in this place - as well as outdoor spots.

Here's the dilemma - it's $695 a night.

So what I'm thinking about right now is that $695 would take care of:

$129 hotel room I would be staying in the night before the wedding
$150 conference room rental at the hotel for the girls to get ready in
$?? for an indoor picture location

It's still a lot more, but I could also have some of my BMs stay there with me and possibly split the cost.

What do you guys think? Is it worth it?

I think the best way to think about it is the way that you did!! If you figure the cost for any other room you would stay in, the price for the conference room, and the picture taking location fee- I think it is safe to say you would only be saving like $295. I know $300 isn't pennies, but I would think about the BEAUTY of this place and how many GREAT, UNIQUE pictures you will have- andddddddd you won't have to stress about an indoor picture location if it is a rainy day (fingers crossed it will not be)!

Ker- this place is AMAZING. YOU NEED TO DO IT.

you're right - I need to start thinking about it as $300 extra instead of $700. ok, now i just need to make sure the logistics are going to work out with the inn itself before i get myself all excited. i think i'm going to take a trip out there next weekend to go over everything.

Yesssssssss I was going to suggest that too!!!!! Go there to make sure you love it and that they are an accomodating place. You don't want to deal with ridiculous people on your wedding day.

i read like a million reviews online and since the place has gone under new ownership everyone says they are wonderful. the only thing i'm worried about is that it says on their site that it's a 2 night minimum on weekends...wonder if i can get around that.

I agree with the others...do it, but see if you can split the cost of the night before (or at least have them chip in). It would be fun to spend the night with them anyway...a few of my girls and I are splitting a room the night before in our hotel and then getting ready there the next day.

that's what i was thinking - it would be fun to have a bunch of the girls there the night before. when i told FH he was so confused - he thought we were supposed to hang out the night before. i told him the bride and groom are supposed to go their separate ways until the next day - he was so upset! haha

wow place in gorgeous! If it kills a few birds with one stone, even though it's more money, I think the happiness and convenience of one place for multiple things will outweight the cost!

DO IT!!!!!

I SAY GO FOR IT!!!

I am frugal and I don't like spending unnecessary money on frivolous stuff

but the place is gorgeous and serves more than one purpose.

It's important that you have a place you LOVE to take pictures in.

whats the point of spending 5 G's on pictures if you aren't taking them in a place that will really WOW in those shots?

It's not a waste of money, it's a muti-functional space.

You'll regret not doing it, whats a few hundred in the long run?

GO FOR IT

i need you on my debate team nao!

but in all seriousness, you're completely right about the photos - if we're paying all this money for the photographer, i want the pics to be killer.

i reallyyyyyy hope i can make it work!
