need to vent

It's so funny that I am venting here but no one else really understands all of the problems that arise with weddings. I make more money than my mother and my fiance's parents are wealthy. My mother does not make as much money but is inviting the most people and keeps complaining that she has to cut people off of her list. My sister keeps telling me to put in more money to pay for the extra people my mom wants to invite because I make more money and my mom has done a lot for me. My mom also is complaining about the fact that my fiance's parents who are paying the bulk of the wedding want to limit the number of people. Aren't people supposed to make things easier for me because it is my wedding????

People are crazy, and weddings make them crazier.

You just have to sit down with your mom and explain that you just cannot spend the extra XYZ it would cost to add these people. If other people say no, maybe then, but there's only so much money going around. Show her your budget and how much things are costing overall, and then put your foot down - nicely, but firmly.

I'm so sorry you're going through this - who gets to limit the number of guests if NOT the person paying for those guests?!?

I think we have all probably learned the hard way how weddings bring out the best and worst in people sometimes. I am sorry you have to be stressed at a happy time in your life but vent to us anytime you need to.

I'm sorta in the same boat but with different circumstances...

FMIL want's to invite the whole world, and had the nerve! to call my parents cheap because they are limiting the guest list to 70.

FMIL, compares everything, and tries to out do everyone.. But she's not paying a dime towards the reception.

She makes me nuts!

But anyhoo..
I've learned you just have to say no and stick to it, don't let other's make you feel guilty, even parents..just try to do it as gently as possible
