Re: Need to vent about E parties

I believe that E-parties are a great way to have the families meet and I in no way meant it the way it came out.

I was just annoyed because I chose not to have a big e-party we just had our immediate families get together no friends just family.

I was just annoyed because my friend announced that they will be having a big fancy e-party thrown my thier families, which is great. I am annoyed because know I have to give them $100 plus becuase they are having a big party. When we got engaged I didnt recieve a card, thats all I expected. I have been friends with this girl for years and I feel like unless you make a big commotion over your engagement people wont acknowledge it. Am I any less? I dont think so.

That was my point.

I don't think that everyone has an e-party for the 'wrong' reasons, many people want to celebrate their happiness with family and friends. But some people definitely do have wrong intentions. My friend is getting married in July and her e-party is next weekend. So, we will be attending an e-party, a shower, bachelorette party and wedding all in 5 months - I think this is way too much. And her father also commented on how it is all about 'getting back the $$$ he has given to others in the past'!!!! DH and I decided to forego the e-party because I wanted the wedding to be more special. Instead we called our closest friends and went out for drinks the night I got my ring. And, we had a quiet dinner at my mom's house with our parents and siblings a few days later. But for couples with long engagements I can see how it is important to want to do something more.

Re: Need to vent about E parties

I am having an E-Party and I can't wait. I am so excited about being engaged and I can't wait to celebrate with everyone. Gifts are certainly not my motivation as I don't think gifts are even necessary for an E-party although I do realize most people bring them. To anyone who feels angered by having to attend an E-party or get a gift I say stay home, don't rain on my parade. Getting engaged has been such an awesome experience for me it only seems natural to have a party to celebrate it. I just want to have a good time and celebrate the love and happiness that I have with my FI! I have never felt burdened by an E-party and if I did I would simply not attend.

We were not going to have one but my sister and parents gave us a small surprise BBQ. They stated on the invites NOT to bring gifts...instead to bring a picture of the bride or groom old or young.

I was glad they did it this way.

We didn't have one. Just my opinion, but unless you have a long engagement (2 or more years), I don't think it is appropriate to have two big parties in one year.

I had an e-party.. but it wasn't a 'mini wedding'.. it was in my mother's backyard and very casual- just bbq and close friends.. we just wanted to get the families together.. We didn't expect any gifts but got quite a few. I don't agree with the funraiser attitude.. but I also don't agree with some of the 'sour grapes' I am sensing as some can, and some cannot have an e-party.

We are having ours for the RIGHT reasons. Our families and friends haven't met yet and there was no way my parents were allowing 80+ people in our house. We are paying for 90% of the party ourselves. This gathering is about joining two families together not about gifts.

My parents threw us a wonderful engagement party, we have been engaged for almost 2 years and they wanted to celebrate the upcoming marriage with both families. IMO, its insane to judge people as money/gift hungry because their families want to throw them a party. What is the difference between an e-party and a shower??? Both are pre-wedding celebrations, the only difference is that at the e-party the groom to be actually gets to participate. It was a great way to include him and get him excited about the wedding (not an easy task, mind you). I dont think there is ever a right or wrong reason to celebrate the fact that two people are in love and getting married. I would have a party every week if I could (and if I had the energy).
