Re: Need your opinions on this Ketubah
As with all wedding things, if it makes you happy then get it/do it. I like a more floral open look but if that is really you, then enjoy.

it's definitely not my 1st or 2nd choice. but it's $150 compared to over $300 for the other ones. I hate how darn expensive everything I like is!

Re: Need your opinions on this Ketubah
Sites for Ketubahs www.e-ketubah.com = Ketubah studio www.jessyjudaica.com www.ketubahketubah.com www.shopketubah.com www.theketubah.com www.traditionsjewishgifts.com www.ketubotbynaomi.com
when we were looking for ketubah's I found these sites. Yeah they are really expensive. Ours is about $300 (but the actual ketubah artist personalized ours so all the text is seamless.) We felt that this was an ok splurge - since we plan on hanging ours in our bedroom like art. It is a lithograph so it really is like a personalized piece of artwork. ETA: Ketubahketubah has some beautiful ones for $100 and ketubah studio has the ketubah for less line, which are also about $100.

thanks. can you post a pic of yours? these are the other 2 that I LOVE!!
It took me a long time to get the artist our names spelled correctly in hebrew, but once I did she completed it in about a week and I had it a few days later. She needed the place and time we were getting married in hebrew too - so I gave her the Rabbi's number and he gave her that info. Thanks - glad that you like it.

Re: Need your opinions on this Ketubah
fyi, we went to the zion lion in woodbury and ours was about 110. the artist is mickie caspi. keep looking because they have beautiful ones and for less than what you'd think. getting it personalized adds to the cost, but still, keep looking.
ets: we went with this one because it has the song of solomon, i am my beloveds and my beloved is mine. that was a mini theme on our invites, so it was appropriate for the ketubah too. plus, we are interfaith, so it discusses how we will honor each others histories, etc.
Hi ladies - Can you explain for the non jewish people what a ketubah is?

A ketubah is the jewish marriage contract. You need it and a civil marrigage licence to be married under the jewish faith. The ketubah sets out the rights and obligations of the husban to the wife. Back in the day it was a way to protect the woman (still is today), she had to give a dowery and live with her husband's family (tribe) and leave her own family. If he did not provide her certain things (basics like: shelter, clothing, the best goat from his flock, s-e-x (i.e. children) (the words used are 'satisfy her')) then she could demand out of the marriage. But if he did these things, then she had no right to get out of the marriage unles the huband gave his wife something called a 'get'. In orthodox ketubah's this part is omitted - but in conservative and reform ketubah's they can have a Leiberman clause which basically says that if the couple has a civil divorce, then the groom automatically cannot object to giving the wife a religious divorce. If he objected then the wife could not remarry in the jewish faith.
