needs lots of advice on photo montage?!

Hi everyone!

I am confused. How many of you are doing photo montage? I have never seen this done at a wedding before but FMIL says she wants it more than anything and will pay for it. she said it was so beautiful at FH cousin's wedding. I talked to his cousin and she said it was the highlight of her wedding - and that everyone was so impressed by it. it sounds risky- it sounds like it could be either tacky or beautiful!? everyone is gonna cry? but FMIL said good crying- its a way to honor everyone -including those who have passed.. at first i thought it was JUST the people who have passed away but his cousin said it was every single guest invited including family members who have passed away. so thats a lot of pictures.... and should we do it before we are announced as bride and groom or during the dinner ? and who does it photographers or djs? and how much would that cost!?

i think i would like it if it was one song length, us growing up with pictures of immediate family, grandparents, 1st cousins, some group shots of others, bridal party people......

when i told my mother about a photo montage she turned ghost white in shock and said it was no way happening and so ridiculous but as i explained it more she seemed to warm up to the idea.

feedback would be soooo appreciated...

thanks everyone!! <3

One of my friends had a montage at the wedding. It was just pics of the bride & groom as they were growing up.

i went to a wedding that had a photo montage. I thought it was a nice touch...but they only used pictures of bride and groom together and also bride and groom growing up- but both their parents were in some photos as well as friends,...

guess it depends on what you would like in it..

We are doing our own montage..The DJ is providing the 50 inch plasma but we are doing the pictures and adding the music ourselves..We also figured it would be cheaper...So far it is coming out awesome...We are almost done with it..I definetly wanted a montage so I think if your FH wants it you should do it..We are showing ours during dinner when everyone will be able to see it.

I have used Microsoft Photostory to make many photo montages. I usually burn them onto dvd or cd after and play on the a tv or use a projector and screen if playing them from my laptop. The program is free on microsoft.com and it's fairly easy to use. I have seen people play photo montages for engagement parties, rehearsal dinners and weddings. I have also made them for the end of the schoo year (I am a teacher), FH's 30th birthday, as memorials to those who have passed on and I also made one to ask our bridal party to be in the wedding!

My DJ is charging $700 for the montage. There are going to be 2 Plasma screens. We are providing them with 50 photos of us and family and friends. They will put it all together with music and show it as dinner is wrapping up.
I first saw it done at my best friend's wedding and loved it! I think it is a BEAUTIFUL touch to the reception! My father is so looking forward to seeing how it comes out!

My brother did it at his wedding. It was done towards the end of dinner and it was pics of him and his wife and pics of our families and friends

I've seen Videographers and DJs offer the photo montage option. I think basically what you do is send your pictures to them and they create a slideshow for you with music and animation.

I was at a wedding where the bride did hers using DIY software she downloaded for free online. With the software she used you could insert pictures and video into the show. You can rent the screens and projector from the DJ or a separate rental company. I think you could show it whenever you want...she had hers sometime during dinner before the cake cutting.

Honestly, I think a slideshow can be good or bad depending on how it's done. The bride I was talking about above put a lot of text/video into her show bragging about her and her H's accomplishments in a stuck-up way. It turned a lot of people off.

We had a Photo Montage at our Wedding. We loved it.
It was Great! People keep telling me they have never seen anything like that before. That it was a nice Highlight to the day.

We had about 60 pictures and it played during one song. We just used pictures of the two of us growing up and pictures of us dating. We had the pictures playing at dinner. That was a perfect time. Our Guests were all sitting and they were quiet because they were eating.

It was nice to hear everyone laughing at some of pictures. You know the ones....during the akward years ha-ha!

p.s. My Husband had more akward pictures than I did...Well, I did put it together.....

We're doing one too. We have our DJ providing us with two plasma screens and then during dinner, we're gonna show our baby photos, growing up photos, our dating photos and probably some family photos. One of my BM's has a Mac and she's gonna show me how to use a certain software to create it. I've always dreamed of having something like this at my wedding so I'm kid of excited about putting it together. I'll probably use two songs, maybe three (not necessarily whole songs). I think its an awesome idea and its not tacky in the least.
