Did you negotiate at every place or just where you made your final choice? How much less did you get it? What did they throw in for free?

Negotiating
Just by having a large minimum and a family friend who doesn't take no for an answer, I got my venue for $30 less per person from the original quote. with vendors I haven't had much luck negotiating- i feel like most places expect cash nowadays so it's lost its power. Good Luck!

ahhh after reading all of these I guess I should really negotiate when we figure out which venue we want. I'm just terrible at it but I want free stuff! haha

I wanted to get them to throw in the vodka bar, but instead the threw in the ice cream bar. The vodka bar only cost $500 total, but the ice cream bar was $3/pp and since we're guaranteeing 250 that is actually more of a savings. Plus we got $5 off pp from their standard rate for guaranteeing more. I think we put our cards on the table from the start that we really liked the place, plus we're getting married in the busy season, so I don't think I had as much room to negotiate. Most of the other vendors we used my in-laws used for my FSIL's wedding, so they gave us the same prices she booked 3 years ago, or they gave us prices that were very close.

Only at the place we booked. FH's cousin did the negotiating for us since she got married there 5 years ago and knew the owners from when she was a dancer for DJ companies. We got $10 off pp, a Peter Luger station thrown in at cocktail hour, $2 off pp for the dessert package we chose and passed zeppoles during dessert. Plus he gave us a 100 person minimum.
A Peter Luger station?! That sounds awesome!! What will it have??
I negotiated bc FH does all of the lighting, music, and custom smart features for my venue. So the typical price is about 250/pp we are paying 120 with tax! Plus he got them to throw in the Viennese for 1000 flat which works out to about 6/person. Free LED lights and no charge to have ceremony there :)

I got a free un-manned station, We got a 'premium Bar' instead of the top shelf bar and we saved $10 per person so that was pretty huge.

Negotiate everything I mean everything. Don't feel embarassed or ashamed. This is your money and CASH is KING.
I got every single extra amenity my hall offers included in the price except lobster. Ceremony, VH, Centerpieces (yes I said Centerpieces lol), signature bar, ice sculpture, you name it I got it. Took me over 2 months of negotiating I laid my cards on the table of a price I wanted to pay and I go everything I wanted plus so much more. Certain things to keep in mind. I'm having a Sunday wedding in the low season. Be firm whatever they give you try and take off $15pp w that price.
You're getting married in February - a lot of venues will negotiate more in the off season because they want the business. During the peak season, they are a lot more firm with pricing/throw-ins/etc.

We negotiated when we got down to the top three, then the top two again. It worked well, actually. I would say try it for everywhere. We got a price drop and a few extras thrown in mostly just bc we asked, or said the other place was providing it.

Wow! I need some tips from you guys with negotiations. Im afraid since we are having a small wedding 75-100 people that we dont have much room. we do already have our deposit saved up in cash not sure if that gives us any leverage.

Cash didn't get us anywhere with venues. They all told us they don't give breaks with cash. And honestly, it may not be the best idea of go with a place that does. Where you'll save paying cash is vendors. We saved tax for photo and video and got a $150 discount for video on top of that for paying cash.

THIS. I'm horrible at negotiating, but better with written requests. I saved 1k off my videographer just because I told him I loved his work but couldn't afford it. I gave him my budget, agreed to pay cash, and he worked with us because we're in November. This was my best deal so far. I'm trying to man up and negotiate with other vendors now as we go!
I don't know if promoing other sites is allowed but wedding dot com is a great place to get vendors that aren't really known. They bid on your wedding and you get exposed to some great talent that might not necessarily be on everyone's tongues.
