Negril, Jamaica

Original post by yelley77

Has anyone been? thoughts?

HONEST OPINIONS, please! Tom the travel agent suggested it for the honeymoon and I'm getting mixed reviews. People say the resorts are amazing and so is the food, but the town is bad....

here is the site: Couples Resort, Negril, Jamaica

I was there in May for 5 days, we stayed at the Sandels. We had a great time, only thing is the bus ride from Montego Bay was 1 hr and 30 minutes, i mean a nice drive but really longggggggggg. overall, the food was amazing, staff was amazing, and the resort was amazing. What more can you ask for? LOL Plus all inclusives are the way to go, no tips!

Yes it's really long so DO NOT drink a lot in the lounge at the airport or have them bring your beers to the bus. I know from experience!

FH & I went to Couples Swept Away which is in Negril (not far from Couples Negril) and we had the best time. I can't rave about it anymore. It was an amazing place and I highly recommend it. It's bigger than Couples Negril. FM if you want to see my pics from November!

That is what he showed us, couples swept away... i thought it was in negril... but it seems like EVERYTHING under the sun is included! I'm definitely impressed

FH said its beautiful. Just dont go out into the towns. He actually has a very funny story. He went when he was about 13 with his grandparents. His grandfather decides to go check out the towns. Right in the middle of a dirt road, the car gets a flat. He said a few yards away was a group of scary looking locals hanging out. One guy spots them and starts walking up to them with a machete the size of FH's arm. He said he started screaming like a nutcase, begging his grandpa not to open the window. His grandpa did and the guy asked if they needed help. He took them to a place where they got their car fixed and he was their tour guide through the towns for the rest of the trip. FH said he even went to the guys house and he was RICH lol. He said anytime they were in Jamaica to give him a call. That was so many years ago though. Anyway, I love that story

We went 2 years ago. Jamaica is gorgeous!! Had an Awesome time!! I would definitely go back. Before we went I heard alot about not leaving your resort unless you went with a tour group/bus from your hotel only, which we did only once. My FH was told of a story similar to the one that you had told right before we went away as well. My cousin had flown there alone to meet us and took a bus alone and she was just fine. I have to say the people were so nice and our dollar goes a long way there. As with anywhere you go just be aware of your surroundings and you will be just fine!!

Ricks cafe isnt as great as they say it is. yea its cool, but its just a bar on a cliff. LOL

LOL, the travel agent said something about cliff diving, which sounds amazing!

Sorry i have to rave about Rick's because I dived...and all the tour buses left us off there...there were tons for people there...and it was a huge party in front of an AMAZING sunset!

I had such a good time there.

FH & I didn't take the plunge, but we watched people We took the catamaran cruise at sunset there and had drinks on the boat and swam into the cave. It was a lot of fun. You meet tons of people!

Couples resorts are supposed to be amazing! I had a TA tell me and FH that they are much better than Sandals- and he said he gets free nights to send people to Sandals and not couples and still recommends it over sandals. (I have never been to either so don't know for myself).

I think it depends on the sort of trip you want. If you just want a place where you don't have to leave the resort cus its all right there, then it'll be great im sure. if you want a place to sightsee, then you may want to continue looking- although there are guided tours you can do in jamaica. You just may not be able to wonder around in town on your own.

OK so I actually lost 10 pounds while in Jamaica because I threw up off bad cominations of alcohol, food, and other lol!

But I was not a fan of the food. I stayed in the Wydham..exception of the Ritz.
I remember I ate a Jamaican Beef Pattie from a shack on the road and it was the bomb...

In Mcdonalds their #2 is a Jerk Chicken special Love it!

That is what the plan would be, to only leave the resort with the tour bus. But thanks for the info, it was really helpful!
