New girl on the block!

New girl on the block!

Hello ladies! This is my very first post here and I'm very excited.......
Firstly, let me say that I feel kind of funny doing this because I'm not even engaged yet. But, it's going to happen soon so I want to get a jump-start on things.
Here's my deal - I'm a Long Island girl but I live in Northern Virginia now. I'm just wondering how tough it'll be for me to plan everything without having to make numerous trips back and forth to NY. Has anyone else done long-distance planning?

I've been reading all your posts for a few days now and I'm so happy to see how sweet and helpful you all are to each other. I was pretty relieved when I found this site and I think that this chat area will be my godsend.....

Anyway, I'd love to hear your suggestions. I've only just begun doing research.........
Oh, and I'm from Nassau, so I'd like to have the reception there somewhere, and I'll probably be getting married in 2004.

Thanks!

Re: New girl on the block!

Welcome to your new addiction. This site is very helpful and the girls are lovely.

A few girls in this site are planning from out of town. While it is tough, they seem to be doing okay, doing a lot of their work on long weekends to LI.

I've heard great things about the North Ritz Club and the Westbury Manor. There is a place that I am blanking out on the name, but when you are announced you come up through the floor. I've heard nothing but good things about that place too.

If you do a search on the site, you'll find tons of feedback. Good luck and happy planning.

Congratulations on your soon to be engagement.

I wish you all the luck in the world. I was kind of in the same boat as you are.... I knew it was coming... FH told me he had the ring. He went as far as to say to me - come to my house now, and you'll get engaged.... I called him from the car, and he said - turn around - I was only joking!

Anyway, you are a brave soul doing what you are doing.... We'll all help you out as much as we can.... RIGHT LADIES?!?!!!!

Re: New girl on the block!

I'm an out of towner and it hasn't been bad at all.
I have only been home once since we got engaged and will be home for a week at Thanksgiving and then next time in Dec to get married! It helps that my parents are still on LI, but it can be done! Don't worry about it. For someone as indecisive as myself, planning from out of town forces you to make decisions since I can't say 'Well, I'll just come back next weekend and decide.' When you only have a couple of days to do a million things, you make it happen! Good luck!

Re: New girl on the block!

Thanks! I've read a lot of good things here about the North Ritz Club. Maybe I'll just have to give them a call....... and not tell the boyfriend!

Oh, and he'd better not dare play any practical jokes on me! He's from the south so I don't think he realizes what kind of NY/Italian woman wrath he'd have to deal with if he were to do that to me! Hee hee....

Anyway, thanks for your good wishes and I'll let you all know when he pops the question....

Chateau Briand! That's the one I was thinking of! Thanks, Curly!

Hey, and as a John Anthony's bride, myself, I second that choice, it's technically Suffolk, but not too far in to make a big difference.

Wow! Chateau Briand sounds cool. And I also just checked out John Anthony's. It looks beautiful! I would love to have my reception on the water. I miss the beach
Paiz, are you having your reception during the day?

Betty, do they have the outside lit up so you can see the water at night?

Glad to hear that you have joined the chat.
There are so many beautiful places in nassau county. My wedding is at the North Ritz Club. It is beautiful. I also liked Carlyle on the Green. It was a bit pricier though. Good luck!!

Re: New girl on the block!

As far as I know, the decks are lit, and you can see lights in the distance on the water (there is a bridge and land lights)

Ok - I know where Chateau Briand is now. It's really close to where I'm from (East Meadow). What good stuff can you say about it Latina?
